G'day friends...
Apparently Qantas are now only doing a behavioural interview (no technical etc).
Is it possible to get some people who have recently done the interview to share their experience/questions they got?

I heard the same, that there is almost no tech questions. I've got one coming up in about a week too, so if there is any info out there it would be gratefully recieved

These are some of the ones I remembered from my interview on 13 Nov 07. They probably aren’t the exact words, but that’s the gist of it ..
• Tell me in a nutshell, why you’re sitting here today
• How do you think your sim went?
• Do you have a plan B?
• What do you think QF’s main/most important market is?
• Who would you talk to most as a QF pilot?
• Tell us about a situation when:
o You’ve overlooked something
o You’ve challenged a given/held assumption
o When have you gone beyond what was required of you
o When has someone disagreed with you or your suggestions
o When you’ve had to stand your ground
o When have you had to work or think methodically
Has there been a time you’ve had to deviate from this?
That’s about all I remember, the interview lasted for about an hour. The questions were all behavioural questions as above – I was not asked any tech questions.

More of the same...
along the same interview lines everybody else is asking, does anyone have suggestions as to what to say when they ask for examples of past negatives, eg 'biggest mistake' 'when have you overlooked something' 'worst qualities' etc? obviously i don't (and they don't want me to either) want to come out and say 'well i thought i was invincible and decided to just get in the plane and head for the hills, getting in the flight path of a 737 which crashed into a mountain trying to miss me, after I got caught in severe turbulence but before realising there was no oil in the aircraft and i had a complete engine failure bringing the ac to rest in a minefield with no injury to myself however i wrote off the plane-guess my worst quality is i don't learn from my mistakes
' but on the otherhand you can't say 'i don't make mistakes and have no bad qualities cos i'm perfect-HIRE ME!'. its a tough one. do you ever admit to making mistakes in aviation? eg breaking CTA step? I have some ideas but would like input... also what if you have no example to their question (eg can't think of any time i've overlooked anything significant-maybe that time working at macdonalds i forgot that guys mcnugget sauce?)

Background - all instructional ... did about 3 yrs worth - starting with ab/nav stuff and ending as Multi-IFR gr1
Exp at application - about 1700TT and 300 multi cmd i think ...

2p!ssed2dr!ve - there are plenty of ex-PNG guys in Qantas. Quite a few of the guys who were up there around the same time as me have gotten starts.
If you're offered an interview, they usually give you the option of either coming down for just stage 1, then doing the rest later (as per most applicants) or coming down and doing everything in the space of 4 days (provided you get through each day). If you keep your head down, and in the books after work (instead of heading down to the yachty/aeroclub) then you'll be right - just think of how sh!tty your life is while you're studying as a trade off for how sweet life will be once you're back home in Oz with a great job & enough $$$ to enjoy yourslef properly & make up for all of the 'lost time' in PNG.

I went through the medical/sim/interview a few days ago. The medical and sim were straight forward but the interview was a little unnerving.
Had fairly simple questions and I gave straight forward answers. All behavioural questions, no tech.
It seemed quite a superficial process with no in depth or probing or challenging/confronting questions. I dont know how they can get to know you with this style of interview, I think they must rely heavily on the psych testing. I really didnt feel much rapport with the interviewers (they spent alot of time writing) and I have no idea how I went. I guess time will tell.
