a real nice outback spot is Bindara station, about 160 Km south east of broken hill, great accomdation in old shearers quarters, fantastic farm fresh roast dinner, and excellent condition airstrip, about 1nm from homestead, just buzz the house and they will come and pick you up. or ring ahead with ETA.

Bindara - History

Bindara strip.

Camden haven is also a cheap great getaway location, fantastic runway, sadly Bob has passed away, and his son now manages the property. but things are still the same, cheap accom. and great fishing in the river.

camden haven

a little thurther up the coast is South west Rocks, and a private airstrip just on the west side of the river, details in nsw country airstrip guide, great friendly owner, who loves a nice scotch, and owns a nice cherokee. easy taxi into town,

same goes for Tumut, there is a B&B about 1 km up the road from airport gate, they will pick you up, nice place they have.

Jindabyne is a good spot also, taxi to accom, or stay on the airport clubhouse.

and when i say taxi, i mean a car, and a trip of no more than 5 minutes.

CamdenHaven. Now that takes me back

I remember building it before all the Council " stopper " regulations existed.

However the trees seem to be getting a bit close.

I like the Dig Tree strip and camping beside the Cooper.

We landed at the Dig Tree strip a few weeks ago to camp, but I was being so ridiculed by my sons for having flown across Australia 'to camp by a frickin tree' that we went on to the bright lights of Innamincka just before sunset. What a mistake that was! I have never been to a more unwelcoming, unpleasant place. They wouldn't let us camp by the aircraft because they said the last people who did that stole fuel and anyway we might **** by the airstrip. So much for the 'Innamincka Progress Association', which runs the airstrip.

Take the Dig Tree option next time, that's for sure. Nice place, actually, and the creek had water in it.

I stayed at Adels Grove (YALG) a few weeks ago - bit out of NSW but well worth the effort. Great strip and good accommodation.
