Air ambulance
I was wondering if anyone has any info on wages and conditions at the air ambulance in melb?
Ie. hows the roster , shift work and so on and what the pay is?
Are they looking for guys?
Any info would be appreciated. I have been working airlines for to long and need a change.

Im not at V or Q!
which doesnt leave much, but the yrs of jetlag are catching up.
moving from where I am to V or Q would be just more of the same
that is why I would be interested in something like Air ambulance. You would think they
must need to pay a bit more these days to stop guys from leaving to the likes of J V and porn star?
Maybe not.
They should because they would get guys staying for good with a lot of experience who are just tired of the big penny pinching companys and all their shortcomings.
I guess I will just keep dreaming!

Check the APAF website for the RFDS SE Section pilot agreement. They are always recruiting. Conditions and machines are OK but the pay.........I'll let you be the judge and jury.

The pay is not good is it!
I would really like to do the job but at that pay it is almost impossible with kids and the like. thanks for all your replys they were very informative . Having said that I hope one day they will increase the pay to what the guys deserve that being 100+. If you need any help with airline interview drop me a pm howard or wally. The RFDS Western operations is now offering approx 15k more than the SE section.I Reckon it would be a better bet to try there if your still interested although it means a relocation.

One would hope that management of all sections will follow the lead of their WA counterparts, otherwise the airline drain on operations will only get worse!

Okay Ganker yr welcome there at least you looked into the RFDS & made an informed decision. Yr right the pay isn't that good considering what's req of their drivers. It's highly unlikely that the Sth Eastern section ie: En base will increase the wages (there's a current EBA in place now) as the current operation there is not like what's traditionally the RFDS's main reason for being. It's a commercial venture (as is SYD) & therefore the wages are based as is everything else on a hard fought & won tendered contract making wages fixed to some degree. A $100K would be wonderful, but like that famous saying..........."tell 'em he's dreamin' !" 
And the extra $15K that WA are paying is probably 'danger' money for flying with only one 'cooling' fan up front !. Just kiddingbut I personally would think long & hard about SE ops in all WX day & ngt outback!
RFDS, it's a good institution & like almost all other operators are having trouble recruiting.

There's a lot more to it as you would know ref wages.
We could have haggled for ages, as it is we got more than they offered in the first place. The industry just can't afford higher wages, heavens knows there zillions of threads within here that tap dance around that subject constantly. Don't worry I believe we are worth more, it's got nothing to so with 'worth' these days.
Besides there's also the spirit of the job we do, if we had have 'held out' as you say then that makes us professionals no different than thugs in other more union driven industries who ultimately hurt the country as a whole. The new Gov in power now may change all that anyway, who knows?. Someone said in here (even tho this is getting off the subject a little) the civilized world over will now be wondering why a country with a healthy economy (That comes from sacrifice, it ain't free !) has thrown out their govenment! I liked that statement, very interesting indeed:-)
Mascot is a different 'animal' anyway. Cost of living there etc.
Remember at the end of the day we are all here for one reason to keep the aviation industry alive & prosperous with what 'tools' we have:-)

Both contracts Essendon and Mascot are 'commercial contracts', surely in keeping with the 'spirit' they should pay 'commercially responsible wages'!
Of course this does go both ways...
