Skycatcher an expensive LSA

Any other GA Pruners think the Skycatcher is pretty pricey at US$100k+?
For that price I'd at least expect something made out of carbon fibre, and maybe a wing without struts.
Seems its just a very updated C152.
Loving the Garmin Flight director tho.

Well worth it. And if it can do half the job of the C152, it will be great success.

Can't wait for my one to arrive.

At long last a C152 replacement

However...........its a LSA to heavy to be a Microlight here in NZ (its about 45kg over weight) ant its not got a type cert. (yet and with the number they are selling over in the states you think they would bother?) So in NZ its on the Experimental reg. Which means it can't be used for training ........which makes it bloody expensive toy that

And theres nothing wrong with a steel strut and truss frame at least you can pull it apart and fix it!!! look at all those Piper Cubs outthere. Put a propper ding in carbon or glass and yes you can fix it .......its expensive and you really dont want to see how they do it...............

At OSH, I had a look at both the C162 and the new Cirrus SRS.
Compared to the 'Tecnam' types out there, both aircraft are built like brick outhouses.
The C162 and Cirrus SRS are built for day in and day out circuit bashing. Speaking to both companies, the designs may be in the LSA Cat, but the build standards come from FAR23.
Both will have (VFR) 'glass' cockpits, both will have ballistic recovery parachutes and for a bit over US$100k, I think that's quite good value.
Smart moves from the two leading GA manufacturers.

Reckon there'd be a few interested... will it get airborne from land or water??? Horsepower (or lack thereof) would seem to be the issue there methinks

Daggy152,

According to Cessna, it will be certifed and therefore will be able to be used for training. I even rang Cessna and spoke to them on this very issue.

Cool

Any Idea When?
Got to feel sorry for Alpha if they do.... that will gut a big hunk of their market

Ditto:

I think Alpha and the Aussie made Whitney Boomerang may find the going a bit tougher.

Both the C162 and the Cirrus SRS will have 'glass cockpit' and a recovery parachute available for around AUD$130k delivered.

The 162 should fill the needs for a LSA and a GA trainer.
I cant wait to try one, to compare with the 152.
If they are as good, and they should be, the industry will buy, especially as the price will be favourable with a Technam... which are not very suitable as GA trainers. - Ever see one parked outside, rocking in the breeze of a strong gale??

Off to the usa as soon as I can organise a flight in one.
