RENURPP,

You would know the difference, in general terms, between the two, so I assume your question is on the definition as it applies to that NOTAM.

Please reproduce the NOTAM - I have been unable to find a way to get it via web access into NAIPS.

C2152/07 REVIEW C2150/07
VOR 'TN' NOT AVBL
DUE VOR REPLACEMENT PROJECT REF AIP/SUP H64/07
FLIGHT PLANNING AMEND ERSA GEN-FPR-4
DARWIN DEPARTURES TURBOJET/NON-TURBOJET
AS VIA J251-TN-DOSAM-SCOTI-J251.
DARWIN ARRIVALS TURBOJET/NON-TURBOJET
AS VIA J251-SCOTI-DOSAM-TN-J251
PILOTS CAN EXPECT AMENDED TRACKING VIA J251 BETWEEN SCOTI AND TN WHEN
TINDAL RESTRICTED AREAS ARE NOT ACTIVE.
FROM 09 240030 TO 11 300630
Why use the term, Turbojet/Non-Turbojet, especially seeing there is no definition.
I would read that as ALL aircraft??

Here's my stab at it:

Arrival and departure routings to the major airports around Australia are subject to whether the aircraft is either "turbojet" or "non-turbojet".

Looking at Jeppesen ENROUTE, page AU-11, for example:

Darwin Departures - Turbojet
AS via J251
J72 via J151 - ZAMMI - preferred route

Darwin Departures - Non-Turbojet
AS via J251
between 203DN VOR and 240DN VOR via W287 - TOMAS - preferred route

The NOTAM varies this published information, of course, and I would say that, when drafting the NOTAM, they just tried to keep to the original format and terminology.

And, I would guess that the terms "turbojet" and "non-turbojet" became part of Australian ATC procedures way back when the first jets started operating in Australia in the early 60's.

Those jets were the magnificent Boeing 707s and, on the early versions, the engines were indeed "turbojet" (even referred to as "pure turbojets").

I agree, the NOTAM is simply referring to ALL aircraft!

Aircraft would seem to be on the money - there are separate SIDs for both turbojet and non-turbojet aircraft which deliver you at the appropriate point for the recommended routings - hence the NOTAM is a slight heads up that both types of departures are affected by the NOTAM.

And before anyone else gets in - yes, I have noticed that the SIDS for Darwin say Jet/Non-jet but the ERSA and Jepps still use the old terminology as do many of my other plates.

UTR

PS Aircraft - commiserations on being out-trolled by Tintin. Shame he doesn't actually have the background knowledge to back up his mightier-than-thou proclamations and then is stupid enough to admit further down that he can't actually interpret NOTAMs.

Would it not be talking about high/low bypass engines......?

Ie,

- Turbo Jet (Low Bypass Type), eg, Military Jets, B737-100's, B727, B707 and the like...

- Non-Turbo Jet (High Bypass Type), eg, B737-200/300/400 and NG's, B747, B777, A320/330 and the like...?

I would not say a Turbo Prop would come under the "Non-Turbo Jet" Type, though, technically it is...thus maybe not exactly referring to all aircraft...

Just a thought.

I am guessing the 3 moderators in this forum are in their 40s or 50s hence lacking in a sense of humor!

I can't believe I'm that old! It's plain as day to me!

Turbo-Jet = No propellors
Non Turbo-Jet = Propellors

The differentiation was originally due to noise considerations.
