2 Dead in Ultralight Crash
Two dead after ultralight crash
Police have recovered the wreckage of an ultralight plane that crashed in north Queensland today, killing two men on board.
Rescue crews found the wreckage in a creek at Oak Valley, 20 kilometres south-west of Townsville, around 10am AEST.
Inspector Ron Walmsley says witnesses have told police they heard the plane's motor cut out before it spiralled into the ground.
"I think one person rang and said they saw the aircraft flying around, next minute it wasn't in the sky," he said.
"I think that's about as close as we've got at the moment but obviously, as our investigations progress, there may be people who haven't been identified who saw a little more than that."
He says it took some time to recover the plane.
"It's come down into a waterhole with quite steep sides, so it's been very difficult trying to extract the aircraft from the waterhole and quite a bit of work's gone into creating a pathway just to get it out," he said.
Does anyone know more?

There's more articles on www.recreationalflying.com.au/forum complete with picture of the wreckage. Appears to be a Pegasus Trike. Engine surged before stopping. Those of you that know 2-stroke lawnmowers can draw your own conclusions from the symptoms.
