I don't know if he used the word c**t alot back in those days, but i would say that he has about the same skill in using that word in a sentence as he has with the word f**k
I guess everyone has their strengths

Grandpa Aerotart
A mate suggested the same thing the other day...around 3%...we sat for ages trying to work out what is was...searched the www...even tried calculating the slope using the ROC (we remember) displayed on the IVSI as you rolled out after landing
6'/100 over 5000 odd feet runway length, about 300' lower at the landing threshold than the top...equated pretty close we thought...memory can be a fickle thing. Tried comparing it to a ILS glidesope at 320'/nm...then decided our brains hurt and had another beer
I wonder how far down the strip he actually touched down...my memory of the trees YEARS ago was they were probably 80' high and only a matter of a few meters beyond the boundary fence which was very close to the top of the runway...maybe 75-100m total? Makes for quite a 'displaced' threshold.

Prior to the F28 being used in PNG and GKA in particular, the max allowable slope was 2.0 %. I can't fully recall the details but I think the dispensation was sought through the regulators before purchase and increased to 2.7% to accomodate GKA this then made the aircraft economicallly viable for PX.
That was in 1977 I think..... imagine 30 years and many dozen SP's ago.
We used to do a Hagen - Goroka run in the F28 and I remember many times going through the Kawkaw Gap at about 8000 ft, keeping an eye out for large orange painted metal pigeons coming the other way. That was magic!!!

If anyone wants to look up PNG airstrip details any time, I've posted the full list as I have it here:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/billsview/airstrips.htm
Hope that helps someone. There will have been changes since 2002, of course, but the basics remain true.
Cheers,
Bill

Dont know about where JMB has gone to.
Airlink COA has been suspended now for a month, due to non compliance.
Company is working thru this at the moment.
This news was taken from the Post Courier dated the 28th of May 2007.

JMB and the Quality man are both goooooone.
Apparently the CEO voluntarily handed over AOC, until problems fixed and CAA invited out to have another look. Most of the problems was in Quality department, as in there wasn't any.
I saw a few of the boys in POM, with the departure of both men, they say the company has never been happier, even though theyre not flying!!!.

I heard all senior management got the boot.
What of the flyers?
Will leave a huge hole in the services up the coast.
Sad day if we see the last of Airlink.
Good luck to all concerned

They told me crew are still getting $, the way the industry is going up here right now if they werent they would find work with other operators in a heartbeat. Shortage has hit HARD here. Our company is very happy with the boys that have joined from them, multi crew SOP's well ingrained.
Apparently they also said the ATR will be making a return, and there will be a new name for the company!! wheres the $ coming from?

Thats good to hear as there is definetly a market there for an operator up and down the coast.
Good to hear also that the ATR might be making a come back. Think they were onto a good thing there just badly managed and with CAA insisting they did 100 hrs flight proving....
Re-branding can work, just hope they have a good clean out and start with the right people doing the right job. Managers who don't live in the past and keep telling young pups how it was done in their day would be a good start!
Congrats Moresby on a stella career but pass the baton on. Lukim
