SAW

Does anyone have an idea at what stage SAW are up to with their start up? training? proposed start date for flying?

good to know the firsr EMB has arrived..

I would imagine training and proving flights would be going on fairly soon if it is a May start up.

Interesting development... Quite smart in my books!

Solomon Airlines, the national airline of the Solomon Islands, today announced its plans to introduce a new 76 seat Embraer E-170 aircraft, an important component of the airline’s growth and transformation. Solomon currently serves Brisbane with 6 round-trip flights per week to Honiara, with connecting service to Espirtu Santo and Nadi. With the new aircraft, Solomon Airlines will introduce additional services in May 2007.

The E-170 has been secured through a strategic partnership with Australian operator SkyAirWorld. This alliance will allow Solomon the flexibility to add to its fleet as needs and opportunities arise. Solomon will utilize the E-170 for at least three years.

“This is an exciting time for Solomon Airlines,” said Ron Sumsum, the airline’s acting CEO and General Manager. “We’re adding new routes, new schedules and new aircraft – and transforming the airline with a new energy and customer focus. The E-170 exemplifies our new direction, and sets the standard for comfort, reliability and fuel efficiency in its class.”

SkyAirWorld CEO, David Charlton said: “The partnership between SkyAirWorld and Solomon Airlines is an outstanding opportunity for both parties. SkyAirWorld launches with a long term partner and Solomon Airlines gets an air service that is the most modern in the Asia Pacific.”

SkyAirWorld and Solomon Airlines are the first to operate the Embraer E-170 in Australia and the South Pacific. The E-170 flies 12 percent faster and 50 percent further (with a typical load) than other aircraft in Australia plane in its class. SkyAirWorld is satisfying the 70 to 100 seat Jet charter market, currently under serviced by ageing and fuel inefficient aircraft, which is growing at 15 percent per year in Australia.

“In the years to come, we’ll be upgrading and replacing our existing fleet with new aircraft and we’re proud to partner with SkyAirWorld as a way to jumpstart that growth,” said Mr. Sumsum. “The E-170 is the first step in bringing an exciting new customer experience to flying Solomon Airlines.”

Mr. Charlton added: “Our partnership with Solomon Airlines is intended to support their own Embraer E-Jet operations long term. We seek mutually beneficial partnerships and welcome dialogue with other groups who need reliable and modern air services, but do not wish to take on all elements of their own operations.”

Commencement of service by Sky Air World for Solomon Airlines is dependant on regulatory approval.

Have heard that this new start Skyairworld is VB's backup plan for the EMB and International operations if the current eba does not get up. Strange that one of the senior pilots at Skyairworld was one of the negotiators for the current VB agreement and left VB to start at Skyairworld. Strange that VB's plans are similar to Skyairworld, WA charter ops, Pacific flying etc etc. No wonder Skyairworld are holding their cards to close to their chests, VB management don't want to upset the boys too much. Maybe a conspirathy theory and hope I am wrong, but time will tell. Rumour has it that one of the initial founders of VB has his fingers in this pie. RS are his initials.

Time will tell.

Anyone care to update us about Skyairworld since Solomons pulled the plug ?

What are SAW doing now ?

Where does the E-170/190 operation fit their hook up with Lion Air or is that now part of the Lion Air operation ?
