Are there ANY EMB 170 endorsed pilots in Australia. ??
Are there ANY EMB 170/190's in Australia at the moment???
Sorry if I sound ignorant but was just wondering.:uhoh:

gas-chamber 5th Jan 2007 09:28

No and highly unlikely.

May be some Oz pilots overseas with the rating that want to take a gamble on a new start up.

If they are buying new surely the manufacturer throws in half a dozen ratings per purchase?

Kransky 5th Jan 2007 09:29

Captains $130k FO $75k. Less than the proposed VB agreement (if that gets legs). FO also less than the normal 60-65% of Captain. Basic agreement, no loss of license and some of the other things you get at other places. Have talked to non-rated guys with jet time. On the plus side, its a job in Oz. Its a startup and if it does well the guys that take the risk will go far, who dares wins etc. If not there are other jobs. VB will pay more with better conditions, OzJet pay the same for beat up old 737-200. Definitely a Brisbane base. Wouldn't be surprised if they turned up in Perth as well. Drivers? Plenty of aussies here that would be tempted, depends on the money.

Sky Air World
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sky Air World is a charter airline that will be based in Brisbane, Australia. It will provides a range of services and plans to do charter work for the Australian military, mining companies, tourism operators as well as wet-leases for other carriers, particularly airlines in the South Pacific.

History
Sky Air World plans to launch operations in May 2007 with one EMB 170 on operating lease, CEO David Charlton told ATI in Singapore, where he was meeting with Embraer and GECAS. The deal being worked on is for four aircraft and the delivery schedule calls for an EMB 170 to be delivered first followed by an EMB 190, another EMB 190 and lastly another EMB 170. Sky Air World also considered Fokker 100s which are relatively cheap to purchase or lease but Charlton says he decided on Embraer because the Brazilian aircraft maker’s regional jet aircraft are newer, more fuel efficient and have more range.
Have a principal investor in the United Kingdom and other smaller investors and have raised enough capital to fund operations for “a number of years”.

Services
Sky Air World’s aircraft will have the range, for example, to offer non-stop services from Brisbane to destinations in Queensland, the Northern Territory and many destinations in Western Australia whereas other regional jet operators might only be able to offer two-stop services because of range limitations.
It plans to also eventually have bases in Perth and possibly Auckland in New Zealand. Perth is the capital of Western Australia which is home to a large number of mining companies and Auckland is arguably the major international gateway to the South Pacific.

Fleet
The Sky Air World fleet will consists of the following aircraft:
2 EMB 170
2 EMB 190

Excuse my ignorance, but if SkyAirWorld's target market is in mining/resources & high capacity charter, isn't this market already becoming saturated with the likes of Alliance and others?

Whilst I've heard nothing but rave reviews for the Jungle Jet, having the latest brand spanking new toy won't be the answer without a strong business model and serious cash reserves behind it. In comparison, the Fokker 100's may not have the latest bells and whistles or longer legs of the Embraer, but they do the job well enough - and they're already here.

As has been suggested already, gambling on a start-up in an already crowded market is a risky move indeed - but then fortune always favours the brave. And the E170/190 is definitely a nice bit of kit, no doubt about it.

Moniker 5th Jan 2007 23:37

A 'start up' with existing links?

Forgive me, but isn't this bunch somehow connected to the already established Strategic Aviation?

As for experience, If my guess is right, there is an ex Alliance Ops person within the fold, with a wealth of experience at this game.

mmmmm tell that to Brian Grey, Paul Stoddart, Freddie Laker (rip)...

Start Up Looks Good

Just to add to the mix of thought. Have had contact with SkyAirWorld recently and it seems some of the above info may not be accurate. It is very difficult to get much info on this crowd as they are keeping their cards very close to their chest. Suspect that this is for commercial reasons.
There appears to be no connection with Alliance or Strategic other than a strong desire by many of their staff to join the new firm. Sensible folk will realise that using old, slow, unreliable aircraft and doing an ok job simply doesn't cut the mustard at contract renewal time.
As for the business model I believe that it is one of the best to be put forward in Oz aviation and there are whispers that General Electric is behind these guys.
The conditions that I was offered are in excess of VB's conditions even if the EBA does get up and it included all of the features that enjoy now (LOL, conditions of service, per diems, etc) plus the opportunity to work with some very experienced aviators. They told me the pilots that they have already hired are 10,000 hour Boeing and Airbus widebody pilots who have left lucrative jobs to join them. Between that and the fact that the company is paying for the endorsement and providing high end travel and accommodation suggests to me that there might be more to this newby than meets the eye.
I guess if you ask the questions you get the answers!

VelvetHammer, you say, “It is very difficult to get much info on this crowd as they are keeping their cards very close to their chest.”, yet you have established:
1. “their business model is one of the best to be put forward in Oz aviation and there are whispers that General Electric is behind these guys”.
2. “The conditions offered are in excess of VB's conditions”.
3. “The pilots that they have already hired are all 10,000 hour Boeing and Airbus widebody pilots who have left lucrative jobs to join.”
4. “the company is paying for the endorsement and providing high end travel and accommodation.”
I say, damn good work obtaining that sort of info through “contact” with SkyAirWorld ………and a new poster as well !!!!!!!!!!!:E
...........but you have spoken with THEM before ..................................haven't you?:ok:

Here are some rumours I’ve heard regarding Skyairworld. Anyone care to comment about them.

Business plan written by the same pilot who wrote the business plan for OzJet.

The above pilot was flying as an FO with OzJet.

Backers are from the UK.

Their office will be located in the Hawker Pacific building at Brisbane.

AOC application has only just been submitted to CASA. Normal application process is 6 months.

First aircraft due late April, it will be an E170, previously operated by HKE.

Don't know, why does it matter?

Backers are from the UK.
Again, so?

Their office will be located in the Hawker Pacific building at Brisbane.
Yep

AOC application has only just been submitted to CASA. Normal application process is 6 months.
AOC submitted late November, due late April. Ops scheduled to start mid May.

First aircraft due late April, it will be an E170, previously operated by HKE.
First aircraft, an E-170 previously operated by HKE is due late Feb, will be painted in SAW colours early March, then used for training and route proving until ops commence. HKE are trading up to 737-700s while Hainan take E-190s.

If this Company pays for the rating and their T&Cs are in excess of Virgin Blue they will have no problems recruiting aircrew.

Good luck to them.

Dog1 8th Jan 2007 11:51

Carefull...

Velvet,

You might want to have another look at the VB agreement that didn't get up... Do not take their word as to what VB would pay you... they gave me facts that were not entirely accurate. The command salary is on par with VB, the FO's isn't.

Also, be very careful about the T&C's. Sure the company and the T&C document is young, but that's no defence when you have to argue in court... I suggest a legal opinion would recommed extreme caution.

If you read other threads, E-Jet leases include training - the company isn't paying for it, GECAS or Embraer are. At the risk of diverting the thread... Why is it so strange that a company would pay???? Your expectations may be a little skewed.

Just to add more uncertainty, I have been told delivery of the first E170 in April, coming out of the paint shop in July. I have also heard that HKE aren't releasing it till May or June...

I don't want to talk you out of it, I just don't underestimate the power of denial... The uncertainty and the fact that they offered less than market salary was too much for me. Good luck though if you're brave enough, may fortune favour you all.

No worries mate 8th Jan 2007 23:49

Magoodotcom,
The info I posted wasn't done to knock anyone or Skyairworld, just posting what I've heard.
But I do agree with The Bunglerat, it does appear the mining/resources & high capacity charter market is becoming saturated. We have NJS, SkyWest, Alliance, OzJet and Our Airline already operating with jets. OzJet is planing on adding B737-300/400's this year and Alliance have another 3 or 4 F100's coming. Skippers are about to add another Dash 8-300 plus there are rumours that both J*tcr@ft and M@c@ir are about to add ATR's to their fleets.
Our Airline is picking up a lot of Defence force work in their B737 and OzJet seems to be very busy with all the other long range charter work. NJS is still very busy with their 146's in WA, operating into some short strips. Alliance has just opened a base in Perth, operating runs for BHP and I believe they have just started operating into Treppell in QLD (also for BHP).
And then there is the question of the E-jets operating into the mining runways, with their underslung engines. The mining runways I flew into whilst in GA were very average, and we always suffered nicks on the props and chunks out of the tyres.
The E-jets looks like a great aircraft and it's good to see new aircraft operating in Australia, so I guess time will tell if it will work in the Australian Charter market.
