I am certainly not ashamed of myself for wanting career pilots to assist with IFR stuff. Maybe I should have explained a bit better.
These pilots, give input as instructors, not only to students, but also guide, motivate and mentor the junior instructors.- That way, we have instructors that actually operate in the actual enviroment that the newbies wish to aspire to!- Yes, we do have brand new instructors, so I am not totally blind.
Quite a logical choice, and most other instructors agree.
The airline types are not 'fat cats' , they do it because they enjoy passing their knowledge on.
As for the 767 Captain doing the trial flight, all other instructors were busy, the lad got his trial flight(and is now currently working towards a CPL)
this same 767 captain had a reputation of one of the best instructors around, owned several aircraft(still does) and has given a lot of pilots/instructors a start in aviation.
However, I have had bad experiences with young instructors with a bad attitude, hence wanting a good mix of new ones and experienced ones.
Any industry that does not use experience, is doomed to fail, and in aviation there are so many prima-donna's around, its not funny.
I make no apologies whatever, for producing good, well trained pilots with a great attitude and who are easily employed.-and, they are not ripped off in the process.

Hey, thanks for your support Guys!
Awesome!
Pakeha-boy, we gotta meet sometime, and have a coffee!(or similar)
trouble is, my new highly motivated junior instructor would probably pinch
that off me as well! he's doin' just fine.
TotallyLoco.

LocoDriver should be ashamed of himself - he's robbing a young person/s a flying career.
This clown can only be a C-Cat wannabe... with that bitter and twisted attitude.
Where do you get the idea that those jobs belong to newly-minted instructors? They don't. Any CFI with half a brain will try and have a balanced instructing team. Older, experienced guys have the following distinct advantages:
1. Not in it for the hours, in it for the satisfaction of teaching
2. Not out to prove anything; they did that years ago
3. Not looking to jump ship for the airlines; been there, done that
4. Far more real-world, practical knowledge
5. Only doing it because they love instructing; unlike most new C Cats
Happy to rise to the bait... if only to demonstrate that all not all pilots are as self-centred as inxs...

Loco mate, I was in NZ the week before last (just in time for it to blow like a B'stard) and had a good look around. Are you based out of AR or NS?

Haughtney1,
I am based at AR, if you are over here again, send me a PM and drop in for a coffee.-- ZK-DAN will make it, and What Time is ECT? will probably run off with it and drink it(new , keen instructor!)
Remoak- nicely summed up! Exactly right!
This thread really got steamed up! I dont get railroaded by the negative people in this world..........
Cheers!

I'll bring the sticky buns!
Prior to the predictable thread drift, to answer one of your questions, I'd suggest doing your CPL and then heading off to PNG or Africa, it'll have its moments, but they'll be great fodder for those long haul sectors later on. Come back to NZ if you wish with 1500-2000hrs and take a regional. Or not.
Good luck fella.

Lol yeah I suppose you need to boast about that, having been comprehensively thrashed in the Tri Nations by the All Blacks...
Who watches League anyway... give me real rugby any day.
Good luck in Ashes though!

Loco and Tinpis, what flight training organisation are you involved in, I looking all my options of training and will hopefully be in Ardmore this weekend, wx permitting, maybe I could come and see you.
Thanks
Julie
BTW Inxs, I'd rather be trained by experienced instructors than waste my money while my training trains someone else!

Well said ju7ez,
Goodluck to you...may I take this opportunity to welcome you to this exciting, innovative, and sometimes incredibly frustrating industry, may all your landings be smooth...except for the ones you want to thump in

Thanks everyone for their replies.
From reading the other threads on this site, it looks like I'm going to be a lot worse off than IT wrt pay and job security... more fun though

Hey ZK-DAN , When you coming flying again....
Loco, good to see you share a similar view to mine and that this seems to becoming the prevalent attitude around Ardmore. Over the last 12 months some really positive attitudes have emerged and it's great to see that you, Eagle the Aero club, Tecnam and even Ardmore Flying school seem to be getting along.
The end result,
What time is ECT? Chat to DAN give me a call and we'll go for a Tailwheel Tango

The end result,
- a courteous circuit
- an improvement in professional attitudes
- a better safety culture
- 100 blokes at the bar on a Saturday night or was that for something else
