C210's...How Much in your 'neck of the woods'??

G'day all, just a curious enquiry is all......
It seems that there is a 'market' for aspiring CPLs going 'north', to do some
C210 time, and I see the occasional query as to availability of C210 on these forums - as well as it being my favourite 'Single'......so I thought I would ask.
What is the availability and cost of hiring said C210 in YOUR part of OZ...??
I'm not even sure if there are any available for endo's / pvt hire at YPJT??
Cheers...

I am in the boat of fresh cpl's looking for 200 series time.

At PF we have 1 C210 available for private hire and the rates don't seem to bad to me- the only problem is the minimum time to meet insurance.

$350/tacho wet
(has the IO-550)
10 hours 210 time to meet insurance
250 hours TT (no biggie)

As I said the hire rate is reasonable but when someone doesn't have any 210 time- shelling out $3500 is too much just for the privelage of being able to hire it.

When you look at 206's at PF- there are a few parked, only one available for 'hire' (I use that term loosely as it is the private a/c of a well known CFI on the field) He lets you have it for the princely sum of $480/tacho.

JR at Skyworx used to be the go to man for C210 "endoresments" at JT several years ago. Not sure if he is still about as I think Skyworx has been bought out.

Otherwise try the aero club they usually have one on line when they all start to come back from the northern season.

If you want to crack the 10hr C210 hurdle keep your ear to the ground as there are often several that need to be ferried from JT to broome or knx at the start and end of the season. It'll usually just cost a return flight home. If you ask around you'll find there are two guys at JT that own a large number of C210 that get cross hired all across the country that occasionally are looking for a pilot to ferry a plane. Good way to crack those 200 series hour requirements.

As for cost, $300+/hr hire.

"...a bonanza is from $260 hr wet..."

The owner is either skimping on maintenance, not planning replacement ... or very philanthropic and making a very generous contribution to the cost of your flying!

I can't help but think that this whole "must have 200 series time" ask is a bit of a wank. I did two circuits with the CP in the beast a million years ago (least it feels like that) and he cut me loose. I did however have around 800hrs at the time but it was all in 4 seat singles. If you can handle a 172RG/182 you can handle a C210. The important stuff is managing the engine and that can be learnt in the classroom albeit with someone that's flown an aircraft with a continental engine. It's not rocket science. The 210 is a great machine, doesn't command a great deal of respect and be nice to her and she'll return the favour. Now the 206 on the other hand is a lot of fun but will bite you if you give her a chance. Just don't let that chance happen. Don't go buying yourselves a bunch of time in the aircraft. A few rides in the right seat with someone that knows what they're doing will sort you out. Any CP worth his salt will know pretty quickly if you know what you're doing and will release you for duty accordingly. Ultimately if you satisfy the min hours to fly the aircraft then the time on type requirement is just an exercise in ICUS. Geez after a month of flying a C200 series machine you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about. Happy days.......

Spot on Defenestrator. I know its off the topic, but, so many people in this industry talk things up to make them sound harder than they are. Perhaps its to make them feel as though they're jobs are harder than in reality. From the 172 to the 182 to the 210, the twins and then turbines and the big jets. Young aspiring pilots are made to believe that its harder than it actually is. This will bite you on the ass, be careful of that, its nasty because it does this, watch out for... So much talk, at the end of the day, they all (most) fly like an aeroplane.

Natit- you are correct on both accounts.

PF may not be under as much pressure land and rates wise- but we simply have no 'meaningful' aircraft on the field!

Back in the day when the "slippery beast" from ole mate at BK was available I remember getting it for $280/hr (Airswitch/wet).

Also I remember hiring a C206 around the area as well for around $200/hr (wet/tacho).

If the above two aircraft are unavailable, try getting your hands on a C182, or C182RG. Not only will it cost you a few $$$ less, but the principals are still the same.

The biggest difference I had when going onto a C206/C210/C182 was actually looking down and seeing the ground! (learnt to fly in low wing aircraft)

But other that that, there is "nothin init"

MAWGH!

I have zero experience on a 210. I have heard rumors that it is a "professionals" aircraft. I have a mate who found out about this the hard way.

Funny. No one told me that during my check out in PNG. I seem to have survived!

You are kidding, right? All these years I have thought the C210 was basically a C206 with folding wheels. I have always flown them pretty much the same (apart from "Gear up" and "Gear down" and now you come along and tell me the 206 is a "bitey machine".

Care to elaborate?

R

PS: "Doesn't command a great deal of respect" cf "Doesn't demand a great deal of respect" ???

I'd say the 210 commands more respect than a 206 - esp attention to low airspeeds. The 210's wing is quite different from the 206s wing.

You can Pvt hire my 210 here in Rockhampton for $300 /hr
