Two courses starting within the next week, one this Friday 24/8 and another on Monday 27/8. No idea of numbers or aircraft type but probably a fair bet the Friday course will be the A330 and Monday the 744.

Good luck to all awaiting the call, I don't think it will be long, there's basically no such thing as a hold file anymore!!!

I have a mate starting this Friday, I'll post back with details.

For those interested he went through the testing process about 2 years ago. Q asked him to come back for another Medical and then within about a month he had security checks and reference's called. Sometime throughout this he was sent a letter of intent to employ (relatively new thing). He was offered a start date with about 3.5 weeks notice.

I also know of 2 other people on the Q hold file who have been called to start the process, but they both have jobs with Cathay (minus a start date).

Good luck to all.

Yes, this has been recently introduced after recruiting called a few people to say 'congratulations, you start in three weeks' only to be told that because they hadn't heard anything for the last couple of months that they've gone and started with someone else.

Another sign of how tight the pilot market is getting. I believe the RAAF is also looking at it after having a bunch of applicants say 'no' because they hadn't heard back within the right time frame and life had moved on.

Penny, have you called them? It sounds like you haven't and so I suggest that you pick up the phone. and make the call yourself. It's a reasonable enquiry.

They don't actually answer the phone these days. If you leave a message, it takes a few days to get a response. Good luck.

Penny,

My mate (who starts Friday) made quite a few phone calls after his Medical to push his case. He got through to a human at recruiting 70-80% of the time, The answers weren't very direct, but he did have limited success. He also told then that he had a job with JQ (which was true) and that the start date was imminent.

My advice - keep calling them till you speak with someone. It's not unheard of for a file to drop to the bottom accidentally.

Good Luck

Direct entry or cadets?

Anyone know what the split was between direct entry and cadets in the courses that have started recently?

Cheers,

WP.

There are only a handful of cadets left.. so the future courses will be more and more direct entry.

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
Do apologies if these questions....been asked before..
Just couple of questions,
1) What are the average hours to those that received the "call"?
2) Any jet hours?
Thanks everyone...

South African and other Qantas Roadshows??

Hi All
Heard from a friend down South that Qantas is soon to embark on a Recruitment drive overseas, (specifically South Africa) due to a lack of suitable respondents in Australia?

Any truth to that? Surely Qantas isn't planning on hiring pilots under the Employer Nomination Visa Program just yet?

The six that started last Friday
1 RAAF
1 Pelair (ex RNZAF)
1 Virgin FO
3 from various regionals

The 8 that start Monday are mix of DE and Cadets (I think)

The A330 guys were told that they will find out next week if they are going to be sent to HKG for training (SIM to busy in AUS)

I have also heard the rumor that there's only 30 on the hold file.

Any dates for the next courses? If there are only 30 on the hold file, and I suspect some of those have moved on tired of waiting, how are Qantas going to crew aircraft? Are they not after another 300 or so pilots?

Thumbs up

Quite a few. Depending on what else is going on though. Certainly 13 courses isn't outside the realms of possibility.

When I joined they were starting 12 PUITs (sorry, I'll wash my mouth out...it should be 'Trainee Second Officers') every four weeks and they kept this up for about three years. These were people going mostly to the 744 but occasionally some (normally 4 at a time) were going to the 767 or classic. Of course, they weren't doing massive amounts of training in other ranks on the same types at the same time like they are now so it's a little difficult to gauge accurately how this will pan out this year.

Thanks for the reply Keg. Well all good news either way you slice it. Here's hoping the courses run for the next couple of years.
