Qantas Direct Entry Courses

Been a bit quiet on the recruiting front lately - are there plans for courses late this year?

TIMMEEEE 25th Oct 2006 08:17

Well mate, you can thank the disorganised lads at Airbus for this one.

A 2 year A380 delay (at this stage with conceivably more to come) has thrown recruitment into stagnation for just over the next 15 months.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the flying your doing now for a little while longer.

max autobrakes 25th Oct 2006 09:20

Not to mention, all the transfer of business to that 1 star airline of everyones choice.
Recruitment will cease in Qantas 'til everyone is on "sustainable wages".
As some wag put it , the present shortage of skilled labour in Australia is really only a shortage of skilled slave labour! :}

Or open your eyes a big wider..

Why not send your application off to all the other airlines that are hiring. At least they are providing pilots with a future career and progression.

Do you really fancy being an S/O for over 10yrs?

The once mighty QF is not what it is cracked up to be anymore.

Mud Skipper 25th Oct 2006 10:22

Do no think for a moment there is any future in OF. The child cadet guard has looked after itself and CM and his ilk have ensured, by their inaction and person interests, both the standards and conditions of QF pilots are headed to the gutter.

There is no future in Qantas, do not come, you will be doooomed I tell you.

Congrats to our CP whilst he represented management self interest and destroyed a once decent airline.

RIP Qantas mainline, "God Bless You", your managers left on the last liferaft.

Thanks for all the fish.

Was that as AIPA president or as Chief Pilot?? :} :hmm: :hmm:

Or "KING" :}

Given 330 pilots are being given leave of absence and flying in India and China, 737 drivers are also in India and Europe at the moment, and at the same time those who are left are still not doing enough flying. Classic pilots are also sitting on their backsides not flying much, and with the extension of the retirement age to 65 there won't be much movement off the 400.

Overall a massive surpluss of pilots in Qantas thanks to all flying and growth going to Jetstar.

:ugh:

Except in 744 F/O ranks where pattern lines are being broken. I got nailed as most junior contactable the other day- I was expecting it to be a call on whether my request to drop my next trip for annual leave had been successful. The fact that I had several major events planned for the next few days before my previously scheduled trip was of zero consequence. :ugh:

Daylight Robbery 27th Oct 2006 00:16

Must have been just like being back on the 767!

Bazzamundi 27th Oct 2006 02:23

The 400 is the only fleet operating at capacity with most pilots doing over 800 hours in the last 365 days and many struggling with the 900.

In the Captains ranks however, there a quite a few in training at the moment in anticipation of the 380 which we all know is delayed so there may be lower hours in this rank.

I just checked my hours for the last six months and I'm on 446! Where is that bit again about not being 'efficient'? Oh that's right, efficiency is all about flying max hours for less money! :ugh:

ruprecht 27th Oct 2006 03:38

446 for 6 months isn't bad.

I just checked mine, a grand total of 210 for the last 6 months.:) What a great job, getting paid to sit at home and play with the kids. I'm sure all of us SO's on the classic will get a rude shock if we actually have to work one day! Some of the guys are on their 3rd pattern line in 2 years.

ruprecht.

Bid for the Hajj Flying....that should get you out of the house for a little while!

:ok:

Led Zep 27th Oct 2006 12:57

So what does that mean for the Q cadets about due to finish their industry placement? They're stuck where they are for the time being?

bushy 27th Oct 2006 12:59

How many?

Does anyone know how many applicants Qantas have on file?

manamana 31st Oct 2006 14:06

Nice to see the balloon deflating. There are other airlines out there. Plenty. And QF needs the wake up.

It would be nice to know how many are on the hold file I know of some:p who have been told to expect progression in July 2007. It would be good if it was a hold pool(you are in!) rather than a dynamic hold file where you move down the food chain if people outscore you.

Yadot I would assume that you are talking about the PATS course. I did it and found it a worthwhile investment of $3300 especially for the score I obtained in the maths/verbal component. I got to know the instructor pretty well anyway the majority of this type of work they do is from overseas - people coming out from Europe and down from Asia - especially UK . So I don't think a shutdown of Qantas hiring would bother them.

But it would be interesting to know at what rate mainline are presently testing candidates, also Jetstar as well for that matter.

Pete Conrad 1st Nov 2006 03:57

Bertram...how do you know what you scored on the math/verbal component?...QF don't tell you the scores you get.
