archangel7 if you're are never going to pay for a type rating and never work for a LCC and never apply to QF because of the cadets you are a dill...good luck with your limited options.

I am not going to ban you for spraying the Woomera mods...although it was tempting...I am going to suggest you calm down with the vitriolic, emotive, juvenile rantings...because the next one will get you banned permanently.

There is no 'joining fee' at J* or VB. They require you to be type rated before an offer of employment from them is made. If you have not been fortunate enough to get type rated at another airline and worked out your bond period but WANT to work for J* or VB then it is your choice as to whether you are prepared (or able) to buy a type rating...or not.

If you are already type rated and experienced on the appropriate aircraft then there are no extraneous fees to join these companies.

It's just the way it is.

Will it change...perhaps in time....and only when the supply of type rated/experienced pilots and pilots prepared to buy a type rating is exhausted.

Why has it come about...well part of the reason is pilots accepting type ratings and then leaving before bond periods expire and not paying bonds...Bonding has been shown in the Australian courts to be less than straight forward in their application under AWAs...in other words illegal.

If a company like VB/J* can attract experienced type rated people why wouldn't they? They would be MAD to ignore that resource. If they can attract pilots prepared to pay for a type rating why wouldn't they?
