ARCHERFIELD ACCESS with key

Spoke to AAC ARCHERFIELD TODAY
Within 3 months a new fence with gates is to go up.
Just wait for this....everybody going airside is to have a key to unlock the gates at the cost of $170.00 each
Flying schools are asking how personell will get airside outside their business hours.
COM police are already doing regular patrols asking what is your business.
The costs of new licence, etc etc plus this is pushing some of the private flyers out.

You're not alone, the same sort of setup is happening at JT. Don't know if we will need keys to access it or not...or if it will cost us.
I really don't understand all this. I could spring some poor bastard in a petrol tanker and use that as my ride to however many virgins are waiting for me...
I'm sure it would make more mess than my 152 with 90 odd litres of avgas on board. I thought throttle locks and chock-loks made this unnecessary?

I think the AAC , should look at what Essendon airport has done,, A fingerprint machine,, its great. scans ure finger... and on airside u can programme it ure self with a few pilot details

Something is screwy here....At YMMB, I got a simple $10.00 plastic card that opens anything....................

If no card................there are other ways.

This from AAC's website.

The Transport Security Program for Archerfield Airport includes a range of initiatives aimed at upgrading the physical and procedural security at the airport. These initiatives include:

1.8m high perimeter fencing (including replacement of any fencing less than 1.8m)

removal of all non-security coded access gates to Airside

new pin-coded door to gain Airside/Landside access via airport terminal

new “intelligent” Airside Access Key technology on all Airside access gates

new arrangements and responsibilities for drivers seeking Authority to Drive Airside

new arrangements and responsibilities for vehicles seeking Authority to Use Airside

a new CCTV network

random Australian Federal Police presence Airside and Landside.


I didn't see anything about a $127 charge,but then again, when it involves aviation they always save the best till last.
I also notice that the landing charge is now a minimum of $23.40. This charge seem to increase 10 -15% every year. I guess that's one of the reasons why I gave up flying out of there yonks ago.

Moorabbin airside access system thumbs down

Moorabbin's new "wizz-bang" system worked well until it was shut down last week with a big note being placed on it saying "teething problems - bear with us" or words to that effect. Lucky I had my $10 Moorabbin Access Card so I could get out. Otherwise, I was stranded airside!

Swipe Cards

In this technological age, surely it must be possible for CASA to issues pilots with a "smart card" pilot licence, or ASIC card, that can be read and accepted at any airport gate within Australia. The system could record the licence/card details for security purposes and would save the industry thousands of dollars in having expensive electronic surveillance systems/centres and patrolling personnel.

Aviation is a national activity, so the security solution also needs to adopt a national approach.

Hasn't anybody in DoTARS, CASA or the airports got any strategic vision on this issue with a view to minimising the cost to the GA industry? The mind boggles!

It's not Bin Laden, I'm afraid. It's the Pollies and the Policy Makers. I don't see any of this happening in the UK - not even an ASIC

Question

Curious to hear about airports where visiting pilots may find themselves stranded on one side of the fence or the other. Here in Cairns, I usually direct one of the safety officers to the visiting pilot to tell them the cypherlock code for the GA terminal gate, or at the very least they could call ATC and we would direct safety officer to them. What happens if I go flying and lob at somewhere like Archerfield or Mackay etc after everyone has gone home?

Hey PROPWASH. I have been locked out many a time Cairns. After landing juggling stuff to the car, gate closes behind me and your screwed (not to mention your plane not being locked or terrorist locked). I think the system in Cairns is a joke. One day before the deadline, I had my ASIC in my pocket, back when there was a security guard on the gate near the GA Terminal (GA line). I was in appropriate Cairns clothing (boardies/singlet/thongs) and I said to the secuirty guard who had mounted his car up on the grass to "rest his eyes in" next to the gate "do you know what the code is?" he goes "nah, just squish all the buttons together and she'll open up haha" so I did not thinking it would work, and sure as $hit the gate opened. But the Port Authority need to tell GA Operators not to hand out the faxed code, because I have access to a privately owned aeroplane on the GA line, and I have phoned a number of GA outfits and all but one gave me the 'current code'. The whole system is buill****, and they should look at that gate next to GBR, dunno how many times I have gained access through it, it never locks properly. Ahhh the port authority...

Word is ASIC's are not acceptable at Archerfield, AAC ID card only.

CASA ASICS also seem to have one huge floor NO CHIP!

AAC is basically using the "security" excuse to put the screws further on GA. The proposed pin-operated gate is supposed to be at the OLD Terminal. The "new" expensive airside card is for vehicle access airside through one of 4 gates. These will be the only entry/exits other than via those hangars that span landside and airside.

AAC want to p!55 off as many GA users as possible by doing the following:

Reviewing all airside access keys that may allow vehicles through - despite earlier assurances that leaseholders and flying groups that have had legal airside access in the past will continue to do so, they are now only allowing through their "operations committee" approval process those that have a "valid business or operational reason". Their view is that if you don't meet their secret criteria, or are not a leaseholder you must -

a. park your car in an approved long or short term parking area (there will be charge for this, BTW - expect to see "parked at your own risk" signs and then be charged for "carpark security")
b. go through the PIN gate at the old Terminal and walk up to a km to where your ACFT is located
c. taxi your aircrft to the old terminal
d. exit the terminal and go to your car to get the gear you may need to carry
e. reenter airside with your gear from your convenient (I don't think so) parking space
f. load your aircraft
g. reverse of the above on arrival
h. enjoy this in the rain

This will be the only course of action after hours.

The option of going airside to securely park your vehicle on any leased land your aircraft may be on or of entering through a more convenient gate is verboten.

Just think of the safety games possible with a cluster of aircraft all vying for the limited apron around the terminal, as this will be the only area available to use if you need to load anything.

AAC will justify just providing one PIN gate by referring to their latest development plane which has reclassified those areas furthest from the terminal as industrial land - even though most of the lease areas will still be effective for some years to come.

BTW I predict a huge and unwarranted profiteering lease fee rise out of AAC in the near future to further push aircraft out of lease hangar sites and onto the the grass.

Despite their continuous bleating that they are committed to running an airport I have never seen a business owner do more to alienate its customers by aggressive and legalistic tones in most of their communications. In addition, it has made very clear by the development plan that it sees the future in real estate leasing and intends to provide as little as possible in support of or for convenience of its aviation customers. Aviation is not seen by them as a profit centre, just a necessary cost of gaining access to a parcel of light industrial real estate.

well well well, gavin bird the airport owner is a tied arse that he does not spend any money on his own but he does know how to rip people off with this new key system. that really sucks . ..the frekin landing fee is 28 $$ something and now this key system.well bin ladin has given airport owners a new way of making money..

You need to look closer at Archerfileds web site - they are going to CHARGE TOUCH AND GO FEES!. The schools must be spewing, what a way to kill and airfield, greed gone beserk. You can get a BFR booking at Archerfield the next day, any other airfiled in the SE Qld you wait at least 1-3 weeks for a booking. Shows how busy they are. The Archerfiled web site also says that they are going to increase fees at CPI PLUS 5%! They are very very greedy people.
