Airline Cadet Pilots
Hello everybody. I would someday like to join an airline, actually, once I finish my year 12 studies I would like to send an application to QANTAS Australia. I am currently studying my Commercial Text Books for General Aviation, as I usually fly with my father in a C172. I have been reading over some threads, and I have heard about "Cadet" pilots joining the airline, and getting all of these large benefits. What is a Cadet pilot anyway? I have read the QANTAS web site, and it kind of leans towards the top applicants receiving Cadetship... and I have heard many people say that Cadets get all the "good" jobs as such.
Could anyone give me more information on this, and also is it even possible to get into QANTAS without a Bacherlor of Aviation from University? Can you get in from just finishing grade 12 at a high level?
Thankyou.

Re: Airline Cadet Pilots
Apply for the Qantas cadetship. You only need year 12, maths, english and physics I think, and if you get lucky, off you go.
You have to pay for your own training, and the cost is somewhere over $100K. If you don't get into the cadet program, QF is the only Australian airline to offer one, you will have to go out, get a licence, build experience and then apply like the majority of people who get into Qantas. If you don't get accepted into the cadet course, it does not mean you cannot get in at a later date once you have the licence and qaulifications. A degree is not required.

AMF, whats the rush?
Wanting to go from school to Qantas is like wanting to go from school to married with kids. Try the 'single life' before you commit!

Why should I sit back and wait for my oppurtunity to pass? Airlines are looking for youngsters, such as myself, and what better time to be an airline pilot? Having no family to leave home, and no debts or anything. Just gaining the experience.
Anyway it's not really going from school to QANTAS, it's more like going from a pilot, to a Second Officer. Giving me responsabilities and a position, that shows me exactly where I am heading in life. It's where I want to be, and I like to be given a standard and a duty, and to exceed that.

Maybe you really are young and naive.
Here's an idea- how about some of you try ENCOURAGING the new-bees. instead of turning it into a p*****g contest about who can seem the most jaded and cynical?

Goodluck champ, just remember it's rarely a dream run into an airline, it's hardwork, you often have to live in crappy places earning little money, Churchills victory speech at the end of WWII:
Never give up
Never give up
Never give up
Stay determined!! BP

I'm not convinced that this isn't a wind-up. If it is, it's a good one.

I have a very keen interest in Aviation, ever since I was young. And I really don't mind what aircraft I fly, as long as I can get a job in the aviation industry and support myself, as I persue my career. I really like the Turbo Props, they fancy me. So, as long as I fly, I'll be happy.
