mate i don't know how you passed psych with that attidude. You're clearly in need of some maturity, and definetly need to grow up. Its a privelage to be a cadet! don't abuse what you've been given, believe me, QC recruiting will tell you to bugger off when you front up for mainline if they saw this.
In your case darwin IS a waste of time, because you don't deserve it, stay in Sydney and tell Qantas its jetstar asia or nothing, they'll tell you to bugger off, and you'll have to do some hard yards and growing up somewhere else. better for everyone. and don't bring other QCs into this, most wont want to associate with someone who gives them a bad rep!

HI Guys
I would just like to apologise to everyone I seemed to have upset. I am just new to the industry and didnt realise the bitterness that some people hold for QC's. I guess I have just learned one tuff lesson.
Yours sincerly

Nunc est bibendum
Fingers, I was gentle before, I'll be gentle again. This latest post of yours hardly fixes things.
This is NOT about 'some people', it's about YOU! This issue is NOT about others being bitter towards cadets, it's about others being bitter towards anyone (cadets, GA or military) on this forum with the wrong attitude. Your first post showed that attitude and the fact that you're a cadet just rubs peoples noses in it.
Whilst I've copped the occasional bit of grief for being a former cadet, it's been relatively minor and mostly from small minded people. However, the reason I've copped so little is because I had to EARN the respect of those that I flew with and the other contributors on this forum. I did this by having the right attitude towards both the way I post on this forum and when I sign on at work.
Check attitude, re-adjust and most importantly, think BEFORE you press 'submit reply'.

You've embarrassed yourself
You've embarrassed Qantas
You've embarrassed every (most) QF cadet's
You've insulted every other pilot actually doing the 'hard yards' in GA who, through no fault of their own, didn't get a stint as a QF cadet, and who one day dreams to be in the same position as yourself.
But most importantly, you've insulted every hard working professional pilot working for Air North. You owe an apology to them and every other pilot who would give his/her left leg to work for Air North.

I feel very sorry to hear that the people who have responded know only to respond in an offensive and degrading manner to you
Don't give this kid a pat on the back and dismiss it as naiveity, treat this sort of comment with the disdain and insult it deserves.
P4L, i couldn't agree with you more.

I pity you young man.
Hopefully you have learnt a lesson as you say otherwise I imagine your time in aviation let alone in QF (god help us) will be short lived.
Should you make it into QF mainline I will no doubt spot you a mile away when on the flight deck pre departure. You'll be the dill NO ONE bothers to communicate with, not withstanding CRM protocols!
Father would undoubtedly disapprove of your stupidity after spending so much money on you.
Visit the room of mirrors!!!

Fingers, you really are going to have to learn to choose your words more carefully.
Whilst it's true there are some small-minded folk out there who have a chip on their shoulder concerning cadets, the true gentlemen and professionals of aviation do not harbour any bitterness towards YOU - just your ATTITUDE.
Many pilots feel you do not deserve the opportunity you've been given, because you haven't served a true apprenticeship. Compare...
Aspiring GA Pilot:
First job = instructing/scenic flying/parachute dropping for minimal - and I mean MINIMAL pay (if getting paid at all), and inspite of this he's still grateful just to be given the opportunity to fill up some pages in his logbook. Timeframe of 1 year, maybe 2.
Second job = charter flying (multi-engine if he's lucky), on an aircraft at least 30 years old, barely airworthy, autopilot doesn't work very well, radar (one can only dream) doesn't work too well either, still on minimal pay (but that's okay, the second job as a casual bottleshop attendant makes sure he can stock the cupboard with 2-minute noodles for the week so he won't go too hungry), actually come to think of it, if he ditched the charter job and went fulltime at the bottleshop, he might even move up another tax bracket! Timeframe anywhere between 2 to 3 years.
Third job = Regional airline (turbine if he's lucky), aircraft in better condition and the equipment actually works for a change, money is now starting to resemble what the average punter considers a normal wage (but still below the national average). Timeframe 1 to 2 years.
Fourth job = Major airline. Whoo-hoo! Gets to fly some heavy metal, big ego boost, money is now affording the privilege of enjoying some quality of life (until you factor in the sizeable loans that still have to be paid back to cover the cost of all that training), so maybe there's not so much left in the pocket after all, but at least he's finally achieved his dream of flying jets for the majors. It only took the poor bastard anywhere from 5 to 8 years (and that's after training, don't forget), but hey, he's finally living the dream, right?
And now the Qantas Cadet...
First job = F/O on a Metro/Brazilia/whatever, in other words something that actually has some decent performance, decent equipment, flying regional airline ops, ...Hang on a minute, isn't this Job No. 3??? Nah, he got to skip the first two and the associated 1 to 4 years of flying crap equipment for no money.
Second job = The Big Rat. Whoo hoo! B744, B747, A330, A380, oh bugger, decisions decisions (actually they tell you what you're going to fly, but you don't care because it looks sexy no matter what, and you can stroke your willy while thinking about all the hot girlies you're going to score with - because you fly JETS for Qantas). The only thing that sucks in all of this is having to kill 18 months bumming around in your Metro before you get a seat at the table.

Maybe now you can see why you've incurred so much wrath. You have been extremely fortunate to be selected for a programme that fast-tracks your career in a very serious way. This is why there are some out there who feel you haven't earned it. As already mentioned, a stint with A*r N*rth is most certainly not doing the hard yards. There are scum-of-the-earth jobs out there that you will never even come close to experiencing (nor would you want to). And there are many talented, hard-working, deserving professional pilots who, through no fault of their own, will never get to realize their dream of flying for any airline at all, not just QF.
This has been a very sobering lesson for you indeed, and in some ways I pity you - but you're certainly the wiser for it now.
P.S. I have had extensive experience working with QF cadets, and they have my utmost respect. Nearly all of them have been extremely hard-working, respectful, and most of all grateful for being in a position that I and many others will never experience. They know what's at stake, and they have all looked forward eagerly to any opportunity to gain experience at a GA/regional level for a couple of years before going to Mainline. Gibbo, if you're reading this: Way to go mate.

The tennor of your opening post, and that commenting on the bitterness of some folk towards QCs, leads me to suspect that you were born with the proverbial silver spoon.
I have no inate like or dislike of QC but your posts lead me to believe that you will not survive in aviation on your own merits. It'll only be because you have a mentor who will look after you, come what may, or your folk/s have influence.
Pity.

Do yourself a favour pal, and get TF of the prune now (in your early days of flying the scarebus), go on do it! (Theres a function where you can delete your user name). Because you'll just open your mouth one day, then the next you'll have pissed off I'd say about 20 ppl. Jeez can't wait to do non-stop LHR with you one day up the front of the 773, hearing about your 'hard days' on the braz in that TERRIBLE TERRIBLE place known as darwin. How dare QF send you there!!!! Do they know who you are?????
ARSE!!!!!!!

You are doing your pprune reputation a great deal of harm by even bothering to reply to this. I thought you were better than that! It is funny watching everyone get worked up though!
C'mon guys, has to be a wind up!!! Woop Woop, Pull Up!

Advice
Hi Fingerscalk, i just finnished my stint at airnorth and i didnt really enjoy it. So happy to finally get it over and done with and get a real job with the big red.
Darwin was such a hole there's nothing to do up there. Its good to be based back in sydney now. Honestly, i dont think i would have liked Jetstar Asia either. Its too hot and humid in singapore and you have to work too hard as an A320 FO. Much prefer to be a SO on a 744.
I feel sorry for you as you are about to begin your 2 years of torture. My advice is just keep telling youself its only for 2 years. It does drag on a bit but eventually its all over.
Good luck mate.
Your fellow QC

This is a very interesting thread, which tells us a lot about the people who post on here, and identifies a problem that GA faces.
Fingers has indicated that he is not prepared to leave his comfortable base in Sydney, or to fly those Little aeroplanes.
He is just the same as many of the others who post on here, The only difference seems to be his acess to finance and a cadetship.
Too meny times we see people complaining about "doing the hard yards"(big heros), working for poor pay(fools), and the terrible aeroplanes they are "forced" to fly.
Just like Fingers.
