Air Nelson's new baby...
...is doing a tour of the country.
Heard its @ NZTG around 'brown oclock' Thursday and staying the night. Big-wigs getting a look-see @ brekky Fri am, then going for a 45min jaunt round skies! After its off to RO for a repeat.
Word is anyone who refers to it as a 'Dash 8', gets off-loaded somewhere over the Kaimai Ranges.
Is ATC really not gonna call it a Dash 8? Can't imagine so..

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but whats with the handheld mike? I have noticed it on a few 'new' aircraft now, is it purely for redundancy if the boom mike fails?

You don't have your headset on every minute of the day, calling for clearances on the ground, talking to company to find out where the crew meals are, headsets off in cruise, making PAs etc etc.

And the red thing with writing on it, blocking the engine inlet with all those remove before flight tags on it has "Dash-8" printed on it! Wow imagine that! Must tell DHC that they have stuffed up!

Some of us are sorry for the excitement MOR, but we are yet to attain the title of God that you have. (come to think of it, i tend to get a little itchy over a cub, so personally i think im a long way off yet)
Ok in my procrastination I have found on the Airnz website if anyone is interested that it is arriving at PMR 1111 and then departing 1230 and arriving back at 1300. Looks like it will head off to NPL at 1350

Speeds high
However, he and I agree that a cub (especially a yellow one) is well worth getting excited about.
Unlike a tired, old-technology, uninspiring light turboprop. It's only been around for 22 years.
Expect the NVS system to last about a week before it breaks. It will then stay broken once Air NZ work out how much it costs to fix.
Three cheers for mediocrity...

Now dont take offence to this but.....All the excitment is kind of lost on me as well, looks outwardly the same as those that Ansett/QF nz and Origin operated for years...with a few extra toys and a bit of extra cash for the chaps who get to fly it (by no means a bad thing) Still all us guys down in G.A are itching to have a go sometime. Like any new aircraft they may have some initial problems but i think they'll prove a good choice in years to come.
1297shp: you think calling it a Dash-8 upsets them, call it a Dash-7 then see what happens!

I noticed on the forward wall by the airstars there is a not too subtle plaque with de havilland dash 8 on it, trying to get people to call it a q300 without the dash 8 could prove to be near on impossible.

Have to agree - once a Dash 8, always a Dash 8.
I mean it looks like a Dash 8, its got Dash 8 written all over it, I'm sure it's still as slow as a Dash 8,, and it sure as hell looks like it still has that dark and pokey cabin of a Dash 8!

I wasn't gonna call it a pressure bulkhead cos it has a huge gap in it, its more like the side of a coat closet so I decided to call a shovelling device a spade and call it a wall.
I was actually quite suprised at the slow speeds on finals and takeoff, I still think its a nice aircraft but then thats what time in a cherokee and a seneca will do to you
