Mobile phones in OZ

Hi there

Hope you guys can help.
I'm gonna be in Oz, in March for a month.
Are the mobile phones down there GSM???
Can anyone recommend a provider for a Sim card and pay as you go, so I can use my Mobile down there.
Any info on rates, plans and providers would be great.
Thanks in advance

GSM & CDMA. Telstra & Optus are 2 providers. But it depends on where you're going. If you're going into the outback there is more Telstra than Optus I think.

Vodafone has some fairly good sim card rates - stay away from Telstra unless you want to waste money.

If you elect to use vodafone, you should save a heap of money on phone calls.....................coz if you leave the city you won't be making or recieving any.

Lightbulb

While it is true that Telstra are probably dearer, they have the best coverage.

IF you are only going to be in Major Cities, then it is not a problem, go with one of the cheap ones.

However if you are going bush, Telstra is the only way to go.

Even Optus are adverising now that they can finally cover 96% of the population, but it is the other 4% PLUS all the places where people don't actually live.
