Is it very difficult getting into the airline seen in NZ after working across the the ditch for some time? Do the airlines still take on people who have been away from home with out too much trouble?

Depends on the airline, but in a word yes (to the second question). Your best bet is probibly with Eagle Airways, they are an entry level airline, but expats have made up a good proportion of recent new hires (including pilots from Aus, Africa and the UK).

You may also want to try Origin Pacific and Air National.

Cheers
