Advice required!
G'day guys,
Just after some advice. Situation at present stands at:
Aus CPL/MECIR
Aus ATPL subjects completed
Aus grade 2 instructor rating
1000 hours total time
50 hours multi command.
Presently not getting very far in OZ, as is a common complaint. I do have a British passport as well and was wondering whether it would be worth the time and money converting my licences and ATPL subjects across to JAR? Many people think I am crazy for not having done so already. I was wondering what the opportunities for someone with my experience would be over in the UK/Europe, and whether it would be worth the risk? Like the majority, I am an airline wannabe.
Thanks guys. Have a good New Years!

Yes and no.
There is movement at last in the UK and the low houred guys are getting some jobs. You'd stand a reasonable chance of a slot on a Dash 8 or EMB 145. If you felt like buying a type rating then you may get a jet job straight off. (~£20,000)
The downside is most operators are not accepting self sponsored type rated people unless they have 300-500 hours on type. Also, most of the operators that are actively hiring for 737/A319 will require you to do a self sponsored type rating from the company of their choice, not yours. So even if you bought a rating, you'll have to go through it (and pay for it) again.
If you had 1,000 hours turbine then the market is a lot better. If you have 1,000 hours jet/EFIS then you aren't sitting around for too long.
The big boom that occurred in 98-99 won't happen again. EasyJet have reduced their expansion from 25% to 16% per annum. Commands now taking at least double what was happening 12 months ago. Also, the EU keeps getting bigger and more pilots are available.
What will it cost? A bloody fortune.
You'll have to do the lot again.
Medical
14 exams
Ground school for said exams (I strongly recommend Bristol Ground School)
~15-20 hours worth of flying to get your CPL/IR.

Thanks Redsnail. It gives me a better idea of what to expect. If there was a really good chance of walking into an airline then obviously it would be worth the investment, but then again on the flip side I guess you'll never know unless you go for it.
Thanks mate for the input.

No worries,
As always the grass always looks greener from where you stand.
With the way the T&Cs have decreased in the airline market here I feel really lucky to have scored a corporate job. Have a look around "Wanabes" and "Endearments" for what's happening.
In all seriousness, I would stay in Oz untill you have your ATPL and ~500 hours turbine time. I don't know where you are but if the thought of heading north or west to further your career puts you off, you won't enjoy shifting to the other side of the world.
We're enjoying the UK now, mainly because we take advantage of the fact Europe is nice and close.
