Slice; It is a commercial operation; the only one in Japan of which I am aware. I would be going back there this southern winter as well but the operation concerned has been suffering from the poor performance of the Japanese economy.
Maybe next year!!

Yes, I am wearing a golf-glove for t/off and landing because I feel the yoke on a A310 is too dam slippery. Luckily found out about that in the sim only.
So there is a reason for wearing a glove but why on earth are pilots wearing a tie in the cockpit? What is the rationale to volunteer your neck to a potentially deadly noose and why should that make you feel/look or work better?
So I say lets keep the gloves and let's loose the ties....

I still have the pair Nobi and Yori presented me with when I "left" that place in '97.
amos2, fighter locks wear helmets with the visor down so the witches hat doesn't hit them in the eye as they squeeze thebejeezus out of the control column during moments of shear terror (like all the time they are airborn)

I'll probably cop a cyber beating for this, but I'm all for the ties in a charter situation. Yes, even in GA Australia when it's isn't too hot that you pass out from heat exhaustion. When you go to the local GP, they wear ties. That goes for car salespersons, real estate agents, etc. Heck, even some check out chicks do these days.
Having said that though, the company I work for now has a 'uniform' of a plain short sleeve polo shirt (collared) with an embroided company logo on them, with either knee length shorts or trousers/jeans. Like the type you wore in high school, if you went to a government school anyway. No pressed shirt, no stripes, wings, etc. A LOT more comfortable to fly in up here in the north, and generally inline with the tourism/holiday theme that is prevalent.
