vrd, I'm hearing you, same boat. It's hard to watch F.O's you fly with get into the rat before you but thems the breaks i guess. I've taken up a new hobby to get my mind off things. It's called alcohol abuse. Not only does it stop the frustrations of qf recruiyment, it also cures the frustrations of daily life like being nagged, boring tv, boring food, boring...........

Shumptey no landing for me mate.....it was sought of an anti-climax to the whole sim ride.Oh well....my q is how is it that some guys have to wait years to get a call and others in lesser time...if you're in the hold file are you in a line (ie seniority so to speak gets the call) or is it done differently...maybe they rank you in terms of how well you did throughout the stages.?....Anybody in the know.....lancer???.....keg???

happydriver.

I'm not absolutely sure how the whole thing works, but I think that people are ranked on the hold file. This would at least partly explain the seemingly random progression of guys off the file and into QF.

As a fellow "hold-filer", I can sympathise with your plight. Completed the interview a year ago and had the ref checks in Feb so I'm waiting just like you. Also, like God's Kitchen, I haven't received a letter advising when my file may progress. I am also unsure if this is a good or a bad thing. The waiting is the killer. I would much rather QF gave me a definite "no" rather than two years of "maybe".

All the courses this year have been at approximately 5 week intervals, so the next one should be around the 6th of July if this continues to be the case. With the 3 weeks notification that they've been giving, that means that they may start calling people next week. Good luck to everyone.

Ruprecht....seems the waiting has some what made you a wiser man in the QF recruitment process.....well at least you've gotten something out of the waiting. ....I sure hope your timeline is accurate....I got my ref checks done only a couple of weeks ago but i did get a letter saying that my file may progress after aug 2004,however, i got that letter along with the consent forms to do the sec checks....what do you make of that?...anyway i hope you get some good news soon mate.

NN....if you do a search you'll find plenty of info...good luck.

happydriver,

The security check sounds like the last thing you have to do (it's generally the last thing that gets done). Any 'progress' beyond that sounds rather positive! Everything is based on 'competitiveness' (stage progression/start dates).

nig&nog, there is a fair bit of stuff floating around the archives. and stage 1 hasn't really changed in a number of years.

Got a call today, not THE call but a call to confirm referees and to let me know they are about to be called. Anyone else in the same boat? (especially people who did the stages this year)

Sounds promising avguy.

I found out yesterday of two people that have start dates for the July course.

Both of them had their interviews in March this year.

Qantas made the following update to their Pilot Recruitment website:

Qantas anticipates some ongoing employment opportunities for pilots in 2004. Our recruitment plan is subject to continual review in response to the changing aviation environment.

Hi All,
I completed the stage 2 last week, Can anyone give a hint how long before QF lets you know if you meet the grade for stage 3? Any news would be great.
Thanks

Just a quick question regarding the criminal history check. Making the most of my teenage years, i racked up a couple of Careless Driving charges just for the hell of it (not really, but it was an experience). Although these are legally classed as traffic offences, and as such Civil convictions, it would appear they are returning to haunting me. Currently i have already invested a decent amount into training, and while applying for sideline work to help fund my continuation i have stumbled upon a slight problem.
Most companies with which i am seeking work (office work) all carry out criminal history checks, in which these civil offences make an appearance. In all but one case i have been declined the job due to these and only these (so i am told by the employer anyway). What my inability to handle a car 5 years ago has to do with my ability to flying a computer and telephone, i do not know, but i do think these will be of great consequence when it comes to a job involving flying.
I have heard rumours that civil convictions disappear from you record after a while (im in NZ), however i would greatly appreciate anyone who has had similar offences, and what they have faced when it comes to applying for an airline job.

Many thanks,
MOLL

2 and 3 Stages

Got A call few weeks ago to conduct stages 2, & 3 in 3 days.

I did the second stage, sim ride and interview last time about 3 years ago but have to do all but sim again, apparently stage 2 has an expiry date.

So I do the physc and skills the first day. Then return the next day for the panel interview and successful completion of that I do the medical on the third day.

Really quite nervous, mainly about the interview as I'm positive that is where I went wrong 3 years ago.....

Anyone got some words of wisdom.....?

How quickly do after stage 3 do they continue, if successful?

Appreciate any comments.

I have a QF interview coming up soon, and was wondering if a few of those who have been successful would like to post their experiences of the interview. Such as, were the interviewers relaxed and friendly? What reactions do you think they were trying to elicit from you? What sort of questions did they ask? Do you think you did anything very wrong or very right?

Thanks in advance

Every interview is different and will depend on your Pysch Profile. After doing my interview I would probably recommend that people go and visit a pysch, get a profile on yourself know what your personality type and weaknesses. By doing that you can play their game in the interview and tell them what they want to hear. It doesn't matter what your weaknesses are it's just how you deal with them.

They are banking on people not having the info that they have. That is why they are also very secrective about the whole interview process and don't tell you about how you went or what they thought of you. It was only after the interview that I thought about the whole Pysch thing. If you could afford the (more) money and talk to someone who is qualified you could quite easily play their game as you will recognise what answers they are looking for. The interviewers are just a couple of mug pilots who are just following the instructions for your profile.

In the interview they are seeing if you're someone who they can get along with and will work well in a team. Other than that I have no idea on what that want!!

Additionally if everyone saw a pysch and knew exactly how to play the QF game then maybe they'd change their system!! Theres some food for thought!!

If you have got to the interview stage just be yourself. They just want to have a look at the person that they are 95% sure they are going to hire anyway. If you try and put on an act and be someone you are not then the game is all over.

just done the psych test recently, just wondering how long it takes before you hear from them regarding progression to the next stage and whether it is a call or a letter.

I know you get a letter if unsuccessful and it takes a couple of weeks, but if you are successful, do you get a call or a letter, and how long after approx?

Thanks, EO

QF Info

Congrats to so many of you on getting to stage 4 well done.
A lot could be learned by others if you wouldn't mind posting info on the "qantas Info" post. It went awol for a bit but is becoming a great source of information
