Career options at 25

Hey just a quick heads up for advice.

Ive got a year to run on law degree in Brisbane then i intend to start training for my CPL. I currently have a ppl ( non current) My main concerns are:

Effectively starting at 25, what are my realistic careers options ( ie am i too late). Im particularly interested in corporate jets.

With two (very non -aviation/science) degrees ( law and politics) will this work against me in the long run.

Any advice, info would be greatly appreciated,
regards

your not too old, having a few degrees is good. Something to fall back on if all else fails. If your concerned about what employers will think about that, dont mention that you have 2. I know a guy who didnt get into QANTAS cause he was too educated, well thats what he said anyway.. probably the fact he was a gimp is why he didnt get in.

25 is not old at all, you'll still have every chance of succeeding in aviation. But you will have to make a lot of sacrifices in getting there.

However, are you doing law because you enjoy it? If so I'd give that a shot first. Personally I think your tertiary background could propell you into a more interesting, varied and stimulating career than flying.

You are definately not too old. Especially if you have $$$ behind you.
But how much do you want to sit out in the hot sun in a place you don't want to be, driving a 30 year old machine for next to nothing, being treated badly... when you could be sitting in Air Con comfort in a place you do want to be, earning enough, with real career progression??

I would definately think about Law first and use the money from that to fuel you Aviation passion. This industry may look like roses to the outsider...but don't expect to be treated like a professional if you go down this path.

Although, maybe it's a great idea- you could probably work for some dodgy operators and then screw them over with some of your Lawyer friends. It might be fun!!

I can't comment on the corporate arena as I have no experience of it, however, I started training in 1983, at 26 yrs with a wife & 2 kids, and currently hold an RPT jet command, though some would argue that it's not really a jet!

Get stuck into it.

Two degrees: They wont get in the way and may make a great back up / fall back position.

There probably will be an amount of time spent doing something that you don't want to do, in a place where you don't want to be, but ultimately you need to ask yourself what you want from the majority of your waking life.

25 is far from old and may even be considered an asset if you do pursue Corporate flying as by the time you have the experience to slip into a Corporate Jet, some may consider you too old to chase an Airline position, making you a safer (more long teerm) proposition than someone younger.

If you were to delay though, you would find it increasingly difficult to make the sacrifices necessary to succeed in this career. Once the money starts coming in from a more lucrative career, you will find the drop too hard to take.

Think about what you are looking for. If it is a job that makes you money, forget flying. If getting into an aircraft gives you a kick, then you don't need anyones advice, just go hard.

It's not all beer and skittles but I can assure you, there will be a smile on your face for at least part of each day you spend at work!!

Try this idea

Mate if you want to do the aviation thing on lawyers wage then try this. Get into law and gain experience in rural law practice. After a few years start you own company offering personalised legal consulting for cheap rate (I.e below industry average). Hire a twin for every client you get (i.e startion managers etc). Hey if you have an accountant friend you can take them out and do farmer bobs, will, tax, accounting, legal planning etc. Writeoff the cost of an aircraft on the company expenses. Lets face it, aircraft are cheap compared to lawyers. In a few years you will have the hours to go onto jets.
