where to for multi job?
Gidday ppruners!
Sorry to have to ask the $64M question , but where to for multi work in todays market?
Am currently part time b cat (grade 2) in middle earth knocking off atp's.
2000 tt
40 multi
mecir
aerobatic tail wheel experience
completed 5 year aircraft engineering apprenticeship
(qualified tradesman mech)
married with six month old. Well go anywhere! (have lived all over in OZ /NZ)

Get your fingers a walking and your mouth a talking.
Start searching on the net Yellow/White pages to find out what operators are out there (tis tonnes). Then get company info from their websites, gossip and give them a call. From this you can find all you need like CP name, aircraft they operate, type of operations, phone numbers etc. and put this in your own personal database.
Then its a simple task of sending off your lotto tickets (resume) and try your luck. Also follow up and keep in contact with likely companys.
No real set formula for jobs just have to wait to your stars align!

Skywagon, might pay to go North or Northwest.
I did the "Oh ill get my twin hours instructing" and 2 years later managed to accrue the big 500 haha.
I'm now with a regional but the majority of the gang who work with me are charter drivers.

he he, wouldn't that be nice, where do I sign?Skywagon, recently many pilots in NZ with around your experience have found themselves in the paradoxical position of having too much total time - ie. third level airlines won't touch them, cause soon as they get a bit of multi, they'll be off to bigger things (that's the perception anyway). I think your best bet is to do a multi instructor endorsement as these are also in short supply. Other than that, here's a list of companies to try:
Sunair, Mountain Air, Great Barrier Airlines - these are your best bet but there are others. PM me if you want more info.

own mobile eftpos teller / crystal ball because if our clients default on keycard payments - you will pay.
ability to bend time - do a wym - frv - wym departing 30 mins before last light from wym. And returning with 5 pax's and two campdogs. That 10 mins before last light may have to be after last light.
and have a magnetic freight net or tell us pax to carry them red boxes on our laps!

For the oombie grog runs, you'll need a lot more capacity than a B737. I recomend cross hiring a few globemasters or C5 galaxy or for special days such as PAY day possibly an AN225. They would still manage to overload it I'm sure.
S/E cessna - very good mate, hvent laughed that hard in a long time.
# as for a twin job maybe golden eagle in Karatha or Derby, might require a little on 206s first but reasonable pay and conditions. Or try OZwest Karatha too.

Geez guys, what is the S/e award rate over there? There wouldn't be a multi operator in NZ that pays more than 25k a year!! In fact one of our regionals pays their f/o's 29k on J31/32's. What (in theory) is the M/e award rate in oz?

sure ozwest give u multi time but the fact that those pilots are bringing the industry down and ruining it for future pilots has got to count for ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on now, pull your head out mate. There are companys out there that will transition pilots onto twins, and other like oz west that will take low time multi drivers but PAY THEM THE AWARD. Have some pride and stand up for yourselves for everyones sake.

there's no such award in NZ and as I mentioned most regional turboprop operators offer not much more than s/e award! I can think of 2 who offer less than the VFR m/e award.

hmmm, wouldn't that be nice! Are employers legally obligated to offer these conditions (I take it a contract may be drawn-up outside the award parameters).Here are some NZ equivilents:
S/E up to 1360 kg:
Award $27 310
NZ "what, you want MONEY as well as hours?!"
M/E up to 3360 kg:
Award $33 244
NZ "I'm giving you multi time! You should be paying ME for the privelage!!!"
The best GA twin operators in NZ pay somewhere around 23 000 (worthless NZ dollars) for a full time position with a two year bond. Many low hour pilots over here would kill to be raking even that much in, If your doing more than 15G you should be pretty happy. And they wonder why we're not picky when applying to regionals! At the end of the day, 95% of pilots are not in GA for the money - what's a couple of years

Just ask the Virgin Blue guys worried about Pacific Blue, or the Qantas guys concerned about Jetconnect. The same principle applies.

I won't be competing for aussie jobs any time soon - I'm not complaining about my situation, just trying (aparently unsuccesfully) to put a humorous spin on the NZ GA scene. I'm affraid my attitude is bourn out of necessity - there is no money in GA in New Zealand (with a few exceptions), it's a simple fact - I'm just being realistic. So many people opt out of aviation at GA level here because they had unrealistic expectaions.
At the end of the day, salaries in aviation (like any industry) are driven by market forces - once again, just stating facts. I think you'll find that NZ pay rates for most professionals are well below their aussie equivilants.
I don't know why VB and Qantas Pilots are worried about their NZ counterparts - I'm sure they have to go through the same avenues as everyone else (surely Australian airlines prefer Australian Employees over Kiwis?).
My appologies for any offence - I guess I forgot not everyone likes to laugh at themselves
