Interesting that Frontier is doing this under present circumstances. Maybe just getting ahead of the game ?

It's a press release so almost like free advertising. Frontier just took 140 million in stimulus so while it's nice that they "plan" to hire and have just inked some sort of flying school tie up, until classes start again I wouldn't get too excited.

It's not a guarantee of a job. A very small fraction will be hired by frontier, but it will attract a large number of students. Sounds like a win for ATP and nobody else.

This is encouraging news:

"United Airlines on Thursday told staff it will soon begin hiring hundreds of pilots — a process the airline was forced to halt when coronavirus pandemic devastated travel demand last year, according to an internal email reviewed by CNBC."

"The Chicago-based airline is the first of the large U.S. carriers to announce it will resume pilot hiring, the latest sign it's preparing for a recovery."

I suppose this is related to legacy hiring at UAL via their Aviate Program. Not sure what it says about UAL's faith in future pilot supply from historic sources:

Z,

Too early to know where these hundreds of new hires will come from ? Flows from regionals with the usual small percentage of OTS ?

There are already candidates in the hiring pool with conditional offers and those who interviewed but did not receive a job offer because the pandemic was creating uncertainty. These individuals will be contacted and flow throughs will also be placed in classes per contractual stipulations. Precovid, AA did announce that they were planning on increasing the number of OTS non military and reducing the flows by a few percentage points.
