The BBC website has a bit more info. Up to six killed including three on the ground.

The plane, a Rockwell International Turbo Commander 690B, crashed at about 11:25 local time (15:25 GMT) as it approached the airport in rainy weather, say officials.

Tweed's airport manager said the pilot had been speaking to air traffic control, but did not issue any distress calls.

"All we know is that it missed the approach and continued on," said Lori Hoffman-Soares. "There were no distress calls as far as we know
."

Sounds like a classic case of the Somatogravic illusion.

Mr Henningsgaard worked at Microsoft from 1988 to 2002 before leaving the company to concentrate on philanthropy.

The appalling irony.

Twice the number dead as the Asiana crash...yet much less press coverage and even here the thread was moved from rumors and news to north america, yet both happened in north america.

Yes, the illusions of half instrument half visual during the transition from instruments to the window...or an error in the goaround.

this pilot, like others of the same background, may have had more dollars, than air sense.

Agreed, and normally one might site the terrain north of the field as a factor, however judging by the impact path it was not likely so.

Darwin's engine - always in motion. So very tragically unfortunate for the innocent occupants of the house.

I live about 35 miles from HVN airport. There is not much terrain down there and an eye-witness reported the plane came down inverted.
I bet it was a classic stall spin accident. I am NO fan of circling approaches and I am sure he had his hands full.

Many years ago I saw a home movie of turbo commander spinning into a lake right after take-off. I suspect he lost an engine and did not act quickly. I also wonder if that aircraft is a widow maker.
