Requirements for applying MD-11 FO in FEDEX??
Hi everyone , this is my first post so pls be good to me.. ^^
I currently own a MD-11 type rating and as far as i know not too many airliners have MD-11 fleet now... ><
I'm wondering what's the requirements for applying MD-11 FO in FEDEX ? There're lots of MD-11 in FEDEX I think.
Any info(including website) or advice is good !

Being able to work and live in the USA must be the foremost requirement, and I don't think they offer direct entry opportunities for the MD11 fleet, not sure about this, though.

FedEx new hires

FedEx is notorious in their preference of hiring ex military pilots.
Mostly ex Navy and Marines, occasionally Air Force.

Their initial new hire assignment is often B-727 Flight Engineer.
They have not hired anyone in the last 3 or 4 years.
I assume these policies will continue in the near future.

The other civilian guy had flown for several airlines, including widebodies with a smaller cargo airline. That poor guy had really paid his dues...he was a bit older, and over-qualified for Fedex or any other major airline.
The third guy had flown DC-8s with Evergreen, and had once decided to go VFR over the water at about 500' to avoid the (radar from an SA-2 site? ) hazardous warning areas between Ethiopia and South Yemen many years ago.

Was on a wet lease in MEM in '89, and our customer regional airline was losing many Saab/J-31 pilots to Fedex (and Midway-1) at the time...which is why we were there so long....

Huh? Fedex has hired hundreds of pilots in recent years, probably at least a thousand since 9/11. Not sure where you get your information? Very recently they stopped interviewing as they will be replacing their 727s with 757s and thus switching from a 3 to a 2 pilot crew on many routes meaning they might not be needing as many pilots for a while; maybe a few months maybe longer, but to say they haven't hired for 3-4 years is total baloney. At least my roommate will tell you that and he was hired 7 months ago...
Ps. Don't forget to look into UPS, Gemini, Omni, World - all MD11 operators
Oh, almost forgot - my rommate wa a regional pilot - never served in the military. His class had 18 pilots and only 5 were ex-military - you seem to be a wealth of knowledge!

FedEx preferred new hires
Until about 1994 or 1995, I used to "prepare" applicants for FedEx in the 747 simulator they had at LAX (Flying Tigers) as these applicants were "evaluated" in that 747 simulator. Just basics, like turns, stalls and recoveries, a takeoff and a landing or so, and I briefed them "how" a 747 (simulator) "flies"...

Every airline flight management has preferences... if a chief pilot is ex-Air Force, or ex-Navy, it is likely that he will favor applicants of the same background. I am often sitting in the selection board of new hires for my airline overseas... I was PanAm, and yes, I like new hires who have FAA certificates, and have studied in that environment... And right now, my airline hires all pilots from a local bankrupt airline, because they like them... Period...

I finished a basic indoc class in Feb and there were only three ex-military our of 26 in the class. If you want to know the hiring requirements go to FedEx.com and look them up. I will say this though, everyone in the class had a pilot contact at Fed Ex. If you know someone who is willing to attach his recommendation, I would suggest you do so.
