BelArgUSA:
I jumpseated on a Fedex DC-10 last March from MSP to ^^#^^.
Next to me was a new Fedex pilot who was in his first year as 727 FE. He had previously flown KC-135s.
Aside from that, Fedex seems to hire a much smaller fraction of civilian pilots than other US major airlines, but I have no proof. A flight surgeon I went to years ago (who died of cancer) told me that, confidentially, a Fedex guy had stated to the doc that Fedex regretted not having hired more civilian SF-340/B-1900 (etc) pilots than a certain type of former fighter jock 'profile' (i.e. 'demo. team' type), because they are more modest and much more willing to be second- or third-in-command. Again, those comments came from the doc. If I were a bit younger, I would work very hard to interview with Fedex.
I can think of just three civilian pilots there: one who had flown Bandits, maybe also Brasilias just before Fedex hired him around '85. He had been an enlisted P-3 crewmember before that. He told me a funny alligator story about Florida...Luckily he attended the 'right' church (

way out east) where some contacts seem to have helped.
The other civilian guy had flown for several airlines, including widebodies with a smaller cargo airline. That poor guy had really paid his dues...he was a bit older, and over-qualified for Fedex or any other major airline.
The third guy had flown DC-8s with Evergreen, and had once decided to go VFR over the water at about 500' to avoid the (radar from an SA-2 site?

) hazardous warning areas between Ethiopia and South Yemen many years ago.
