General Aviation Industry
Hello again.
What is the GA industry in the states like? Are there pleanty of places that operate 310s 404s and Navajo's etc?
Or is it more like Europe? Learn in a 150, then jump in a 737 sim?

The way the job market is right now a lot of folks are gong from piston singlesto RJs with under 500 hours, but there are still a lot of large piston twins operating with charter and cargo companies.

Several US Regionals have dropped any minimum hour requirements, with a Commercial, Instrument, Multi being the ONLY hard requirement. Kinda scary when I think back to how useless I would have been at that point in my career.

As a Captain at one of the major regionals, it is scary to fly with guys with such low time. So if you are low pilot (550TT/100ME or less), please, at least learn IFR rules, techiniques, charts, etc... and have a very thankful and willing to learn attitude. I'm not your babysitter, but I do have the responsibility of the aircraft, and you. So please, try to learn something on the way.

Low Time
I Know!!!
I waited till I had atleast 700hrs TT before even doing the IFR theroy!
My testing officer said he could tell the difference between me and a fresh CPL-er getting their IR. (still have a way to go with IR experience though)
I would like atleast 500hrs on light twins before jumping into the right hand seat on turbo-props or turbines
Hence my Interest in American GA, I'd love to fly a baron, 310 or a titan over there. Would be a steep learning curve compared to here in Oz.
We have far less traffic, far less weather and far fewer VORs !

One company you may be interested in is Flight Express.http://www.flightexpress.com/
They operate Cessna 210 and Beech Barons, primaily in the southern US. They have a decent reputation, and pilots can actually make pretty good money for the equipment.
Flight Express have recently hired VFR-only pilots to fill classes, though I understand these were mainly people who were very close to IFR minimums (for IFR FAR Part 135 ops that means 1200 total) who could fly VFR only for a few months until meeting the IFR minimums.
