American Airlines Internship

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has any information on the American Airlines Intership and what they thought of it. I have already applied so I am just waiting for a response now. Nobody really applies for it at my school because it isn't paid and you take a fall semester off. Thanks for your advice,

Cheers,
Oakley

How about an internship at a regional ? Making contacts there might be more advantageous as your chances of scoring a job, as a young, low-time guy, are better at a regional than a major. It'll be an eternity before they hire a again.

Good luck in any event.

IN what department/ whats your future job hopes? If its as a pilot.. Run away... I agree, try a small operation that might hire you later in life.
If its not as a pilot.. well aa ( notice small letters) is still in business and is doing better than other majors......
Good luck, But your young why would you want to get into the aviation business, its a dead end, low paying job with no up side... You'd make more money as a manager of a home depot.

Whale dog:to old to learn a new job..

I did an Internship with American Airlines at the Flight Training Department in Dallas, in the Fall of 1996.
I was so poor that I slept in a sleeping bag on the floor of a furniture-less apartment the entire length of my internship. Yes, that is pretty miserable, but I do not regret a thing! It was worth it!
I loved it, It was the highlight of my aviation college degree! Their operation is amazing, and world class.

Everyday, I see the Interns doing useless paperwork in the crew room of my regional airline. Me, I used to fly the b757/767/727/md80/dc10 simulators all the time, I Jumpseated on every equipment they had, they even got me a one-on-one special tour the 777 assembly line in Seattle. I got to learn all about international operations and even F100 systems....FMS...etc....

When I finished my Internship, they gave me and my parents a few international first class round trip tickets.

Sure, American did not get me a job flying an RJ, but having their name on my resume is priceless for me!

Thanks for all of your info. I am working towards the left seat of a heavy hopefully. We shall see what happens though. No word back from aa yet. Also, there is a UPS internship that pays well but is a year long. I will apply for that some. Thanks again.

I doubt you'll get much more out of Wannabes, as this is essentially a UK forum. I'll transfer this thread to the North America forum, where hopefully there will be more response.

I can concur with CaptainGSR. I did the AA internship summer 1998. I was assigned Eagle flight ops. We had the boeing tour in SEA, another AA 757/767 mtx tour at Alliance airport in Ft.Worth, Int'l groundschool and attended AA Captain Duties & Responsibilities class. I got to fly the Eagle sims only....AA was starting their hiring of 100 a month then and it was too busy to get into the sims there. I did get a job after grad with Eagle because of the contacts I had made there. These days, any AA intern is given the opportunity to interview at Eagle with around 500 total, 100 ME. If you need any more info, just PM me.

I did the AA spring '98 internship. It was fun, a valuable experience, and it seemed to compares favorable to any other internships I heard of back in the day. Don't forget to go to the flight attendant graduations!
