new pilot
Hi everybody!
Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Henrik, 19 years old and I live in Trelleborg (the south of Sweden)...I'm a newbie in the aviation world with 10 hours of PPL training.
Happy flying all of you!

Welcome to the forum
Nice one Henrik
But be careful before you invest more money in this flying lark, you should become a helo pilot, much more excitement and skill than these fixed wing jockeys
Happy flying

Hehe
Good one, Lab Seal... talk about sticking your head in a hornet's nest
"Damn, I had a mid-air with one of those Bell helos again. I'm growing tired of filing all these Bird Strike reports..."
Oh, and welcome Henrik

Welcome to the forum
Props..... I do believe this is a forum for Nordic Pilots, not just egocentric and biggoted fixed wing pilots
Just because most of the threads that appear on this forum are from nordic airline companies, (SAS, Widerøe etc..), does'nt mean rotary people aren't out there or not wanting to contribute to a great forum, like the Nordic forum
The only hornets nest i have come accross here, is the narrow mindedness of the people who have everything against anyone who don't believe in, or do what they are doing, or talking about that subject
(maybe you are one of these people Props...?)
Henrik - You are starting to get the picture that fixed wing pilots and rotary pilots like to "diss" one and other.. (But then again, i s'pose there is nothing else to do when your aircraft is being flown by a computer
) Happy flying!
P.S Flaps - sorry in advance

LS!
When IŽm sitting way above wx, heading for warmer places, eating my crew meal in the sun, I promise you one thing: IŽll be thinking about you flying out to some platform in the North Sea in marginal IFR
Have fun!

:)
Fact is we all like to 'diss' one another..... much like seperate teams in the same major league.
But as soon as anyone from the outside comes in, we all pull together and defend our corner - be that ATC, fixed-wing, or rotor wing. Suppose it's easier explained as a sibling problem.....
Oh and welcome to the field, Henrik. As all know - and most will admit - flying sure beats working for a living!

HC -
Ahhh, but don't forget amigo. That when you are busy getting melanoma and food poisoning and paying attention to Microsoft warnings on your screens, I shall be busy landing at airports such as BGO, because, I can land without ILS CATIII provisions, unlike you. ( so circle till you have no fuel!!))
This is also why I chose Helo to fixed cos of the ILS implications. ( Now I trained in Canada and this is what i learned, coorrect me if i'm wrong or out of place here. But i would rather be in a helo, in any ILS conditions?)
(In Canada the 2 rides are very similar; area departure, airwork, hold , 1 precision and non non-precision approach.
Emergencies: engine failure at altitude, engine failure on the go around ( simulated at altitude fixed wing), engine failure in the hold or on the approach, plus various emergencies to make it interesting. Helicopters do actual rejected take-offs at CDP/V1 where as the plankers just do V1 cuts in simulators.
An engine failure on approach is definately easier to handle in a helicopter than a fixed wing. In fact all engine failure drills are easier in helicopters ( lack of assymetric thrust).
Non precision approaches in aeroplanes are a lot more challenging as well , depending on the ceiling and vis when you break out.
The big advantage though IMHO for fixed wing IFR is you usually have an alternate airport out of the destination weather system, and you don't have the problem of icing in cloud that most helicopters have....unless in an AS322 Puma)
Yeah we "diss" each other,
Yeah but you will kick yourself in the ass when an SAR (HELO) team pull you out of the water???
Great to banter about the two, but personally, I AM A NORDIC PILOT and will always seek the NORDIC FORUM, even if there are fixed wing jockeys......on autopilot there.
Happy flying Henrik

LS, I must tell you that HC certainly sounded like a sas dude, if it hadnt been for the smiley at the end, Id be spot on.
and of course the pilots from said airline did reply in just 70 minutes to a post that did seem rather hostile....and I LIKE it, that keeps the posts coming in this silent forum...
ie I like it that they are very easily offended...
and Happy flying Henrik!!

Which part if your brain isn't working the way it should be?
I've met assholes in skyways, maersk, widerøes, SAS, DAT, Commuter, Ben-air, lufttransport, helikopter service, and the list goes on. Every airline (an orginization) represents the society we live in as a whole - and hence will contain their share of assholes, fools, and regular Joe's.
But cut the generalization crap.
(and just to clear things - I do not fly for SAS)

anyone who has been a forum regular knows that my comment is not a comment to all the sas pilots, just the ones that are visiting here, and are easily offended, and its true, they are...
I'm not saying they are a**holes, I never have, and I never will. I've met my share of said persons over the years, and they are not exclusive to any aviation company....
I'm just saying they help spice up the everyday boredom of this nordic forum when they get offended and mad by other peoples posts...
I hope all you sas pilots can read this post and all my other ones with heavy sarcasm, thats the way they were intended to be read...

Hello again, LS!
Sure, I'm as egocentric and bigoted as they come
And of course you are right. All the skill and challenge is in flying helos, thats why I chose fixed wing.
Grabbing a snack, reading the paper and watching the clouds while the computer does all the work... does it get any better?
Regards/
Props

Henrik, welcome to the wonderful world of aviation
As you can tell by now, some people are out to get you while others will lend a helping hand. There are a lot of bungholes in the industry, but there are also very many great people who enjoy what they do.
Personally I think this is a good time to start flight training, and by the time you`re ready to start applying for flying jobs there should be somewhat of an upturn - Lesson 1: There are no guarantees
Try to get in touch with a lot of other pilots. It`s all about who you know... that`s what could help you land a job.
Good luck and fly safely

Welcome Henrik
B Sousa - I would say that that makes you alsmost guaranteed to be an inbred of some sort...... But definately Nordic. And with humour like that, I am sure to guess wrong, but you work for SAS right
Props - Glad to know that I fly in safety, when i am up with you plank heads. Kicking back and enjoying the scenery, having a coffee and a blowjob
(Hope the wife isn't reading this)
Yeah it does get better, coz i guarantee i am paying less tax than you and getting a bigger cheque at the end of the month.
Sidestep - Hows the HRT coming on, on a bit of a downer this month (So you must have been one of those laid off by SAS then
) So you are just a regular boring old joe then?
Henrik - Take my advice buddy and get those rotary wings. Nothing in life is guranteed, not even a job, but you will have one hell of a ride. (Whichs beats falling asleep at the wheel of a MD80 or 737. Yawn.......Are we there yet dear......Yes i would love a rubbery smoked salmon sandwich and some cheap red wine please
) Live for the moment and don't be a boring old grumbleweed flying plankers all your life.
Are you enjoying the JAR medication yet?
Safe flying Henrik

Pilots may be pilots
Sidestep - We may hold the same company on this forum, but i can assure you that i do not work for the same company as you.
(Are you still in employment
)
Techman - Some of the best words i have heard yet on this thread. Us helo pilots cannot live without the tech supprt that is provided by dedicated and hardworking engineers such as your self. Good on you.
Henrik - maybe you should become an engineer as well. Even more money in it. A flying/testing engineer, worth a lot of Kr.
