Hi Off Road,. .. .If You compare Sweden and Denmark, I am affraid Sweden would win. In Sweden I think You would be able to save 25% on a house (compared to Denmark that is <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> ). At least 40% on a car. 10 - 20 % on Food. . .Sweden and Denmark are very alike cultural aswell as social (of course with a few exceptions). For example its standard procedure never to wear shoes inside <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> They dont smoke inside (that's a nice thing), and whenever they want to buy alcohol they need to visit "Systembolaget" (not as bad as it sounds - they have a great selection).. .. ./POL

I agree with both previous posts that economically it is the place of choice, but even though I'm Swedish myself I have to say that the danes have more of a "continental european" attitude which sometimes is to prefer to the swedish one.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

Right, being danish I am obviously somewhat biased but will try to be as objective as possible. OK, Sweden is boring, and if you enjoy a beer and a night in town also extremely expensive. Yes, DK is also expensive but on the wining and dining part Sweden is second in cost only to Norway.
The standards of living in both countries are very high, probably amongst the highest in the world. Since both danes and swedes pay an arm and a leg in taxes, the result is that the gross earnings are rather high.
Cars in Denmark are taxed around 180%, which means that a car in DK is roughly twice the cost of the same car in SE. But depending on your beer consumption it might even out
As for not smoking in doors, well ... I know quite a few swedes and they all smoke in doors. The swedish authorities will introduce mandatory no-smoking areas in all pubs and restaurants. If the bar can not provide for a non-smoking area, the entire bar must be non-smoking. Guess it's a sign that the authorities does not want Swedes to have fun or drink.
Some food is cheaper in DK, especially meat, whereas many other items are cheaper in SE. If you fancy soft drinks and chocolate, go to sweden. If you prefer a steak and a good wine, go to DK. If you like to live a dull life, go to SE. If you want to party all night and maybe even enjoy a little Jay, go to DK.

In Sweden houses are cheaper and especially cars are a lot cheaper.
People in Southern Sweden are also very nice and relaxed. I can recomend the area around Malmô.
Swedes from Stockholm can be very boring and very
square, so dont move to Stockholm!!
If you like to go out to eat or for a drink Denmark is the best choice.
Otherwise Denmark and southern Sweden are much alike.

Translate my entire post ?
Well, here is the short version:
Sweden has "Päron saft" !
The longer version:
If you are based in CPH, and live in Malmö you have several advantages. Trainride from central Malmö to central Copenhagen is about 30 minutes, even shorter to the airport (about 17 minutes).
In Malmö, cars, houses and many other things are cheaper. A lot ! So, Danes have to make a lot more money to pay all these taxes. If you can have a Danish salary and pay Swedish taxes, live in a Swedish house and drive a Swedish car (and motorcycle and boat and ...) then you are better off economically.
As for the soft values, it would depend on who you are. But if live in either COpenhagen or Malmö, you can visit either city. But you will have to live in Sweden to get the cheaper car, house and taxes. Sweden is a nice place, and even though Danes call Sweden "Prohibition Sweden", more things are actually forbidden in Denmark.
To mention a few things that pop into my mind:
Many stores are open seven days a week in Sweden, Denmark is almost closed down on sundays.
Fuel is also cheaper, 100LL is about 25 cents cheaper - a liter - and car gasoline/petrol is about 10 cents cheaper also a liter.

As a frequent visitor I would prefer Denmark. What comes to housing and dining etc I don't have much of a clue real level of livingcosts than my own experience. And it is so that allways everything goes so it's not so important does the beer cost you 56sek or 49 dk .
Swedes are nice and warm, but as said before danes have much more european style of being. And usually what's on mans mind I can say that Danish women...huhhuh.
Being a finn I think to have some latitude with this but plese disagree freely

The Drop,
It should be noted that under current EU regulations, people relocating to another country but retaining their place of work, will still have to pay taxes in the country they are working in. In other words, if you get a job in CPH but decide to live in MMA (wise choice btw) you will still have to pay your taxes in DK. However, the difference in tax is not what it used to be; both countries will tax you an arm and a leg and a bit of your torso too
MMA and CPH are very close; the people in southern sweden are probably more danish than swedish, which is what you would expect given that southern sweden was danish for many years, and the distance from MMA to STO is roughly 700 kms whereas CPH is just 20 clicks away. Houses and, especially, cars are much cheaper in SE. And best of all, if you live in MMA you can easily drop over the water to CPH for dinner and a night in town. Trains run all night .... and as someone pointed out earlier .... danish babes rock !
