Look like she's making friends on the flight deck... looks like a long, promising career.

Hey give it a go Capt...

...bio could go something like this... Single Guywith no permanant job, no time for holidays, often away from home staying in hotels, dining with scandinnavian stewardesses, not able to help with children and likes to spend free time catching up on sleep, seeks someone with a good pension plan (cos I dont have one) and good medical, who understands I am too tired to help around the house and enjoys spending birthdays, christmasses, most family holidays, funerals, weddings, births and illnesses alone...... or in short, a Norwegian contract FO!!
Good luck with that ...btw think the original lady in question is dating a Navy seal commando type...go figure huh?
And if you are already dating, show her the bio. What girl would not jump at this future she has to look forward to

Finland - Norway

Finnair is seeking to drop short haul European network due to losses. If they do, hundreds of ex-Finnair jobseekers will head for Asia and the sandpit.

Those unable to leave will present themselves to Finnair's low paying replacement or to Norwegian's Estonian agency until they can move on. Just like Sterling pilots have to right now.

Norwegian will be able to "transfer" more pilots and production to the Helsinki base, increasing the number of jets busied and percentage of cockpits filled by contracted pilots.

The Norwegian-employed pilots will keep seeing their numbers dwindle compared to the increased number of Finland/Estonia, Malaga and Bangkok based contract pilots.

Any future industrial action initiated by permanently employed Norwegian pilots will be absorbable by the airline due to the high percentage of contract pilots. A strike will lead to a lockout, with the keys thrown away and unemployment to follow.

Forget better jobs in Finnair, SAS, Sterling or the like; as lower terms and the first contract pilots were accepted in order to accelerate the development of Norwegian; these companies were unable to match the terms, and have folded, or are on the brink of folding.

It may be too late to stand up against the development in Norwegian now, but if nobody does, it will definitely be too late, and it may be time to revise the career goals and to make different plans for retirement.

I'm sure nobody expected Norwegian to take this turn for the worse with regards to its pilots, but many cabin crew have been contracted for years, with interesting turns and twists.

Support your union and make a stance. Otherwise you'll have made a giant and unrecoverable leap in the race to the bottom of terms and conditions.

Oh, and by the way, most Scandinavians are reaping higher and higher purchasing power and better terms, except for the pilots of the Scandinavian airlines. Are you sure it is better to fly them for SEK 299 instead of SEK 399, when you and your future is having to foot the difference?

I am (happily) unavailable

On a more serious note, an article on company website suggests agreement has been reached between management & union.
From the little info given it sounds like good news for all concerned, waiting further details obviously.

Agreement

Basically, they agreed to employ all contractors after a two year period.
Expansion on bases outside Scandinavia will not be made on the expense of those already on permanent positions.

In a swedish news article, the word "employment" is used frequently, but I don't think we will see any new employees for a while other than those on a contract (not employed by definition).

So, in two years BK will have to employ all of you on contract in HEL/AGP. Two years is a long time for the company to find another, me thinks...

Those of us just joined, will have a "heads up " in 1yrs time, when the HEL guys (already 1 year there) discover what is planned for them.
I am guessing that the future expansion will provide enough airframes/commands to allow the permanent FO's currently waiting "opportunities" (I.E permanent contract commands) to be allocated positions without "no further need" for us occurring ? we will see.

True. And the constant supply of F/O's will fill the seats that they leave.

I posted this on Terms & Endearments, it's a Google Translate of the company notice.

Norwegian's Norwegian management and pilot association (NPF) has reached an agreement in wage for 2012. Thurs scheduled court cases in the Labour Court is also called off and the parties have agreed on a policy statement for the way forward that involves the full quiet in the company and the normal operation forward.

- We are both very pleased that we have reached agreement and that we can all look forward. The most important thing for us is that our passengers can feel confident that our flights will run as normal, says CEO Bjørn Kjos.

- We are pleased that the company has come to meet us at key points. We can now look forward towards a common goal that we should fly even more satisfied passengers of Norwegian, says head of the Norwegian pilot association, Halvor explains.

Under the agreement, Norwegian employer has secured the necessary flexibility for the introduction of new bases outside of Scandinavia. NPF has received assurance that this will not be at the expense of already established jobs in Scandinavia and that the main principle will be permanent employment after a period of up to two years in the new bases. The disagreement between the Norwegian and NHO on one side and the NPF and Parat, on the other has centered on the hiring of pilots on new bases outside of Scandinavia. In this area, it has now become the consensus.

Staff travel

Can someone please explain how staff travel works with Norwegian. Is it possible to swap with someone from another airline?
