Im seriously considering going to iceland to get ir/cpl/me training or licence conversion ir/cpl/me

The other option is greece, more expensive, but in terms of CV would look better is more Europeanish....

Any ideas on this, i know iceland is very good in therms of education etc etc

iceland is great, icelandic people are great....the only bad thing is that the icelandic weather is not so great. something that might ground you for large portions of the year.

A friend of mine did his training with Keilir Aviation Academy. The school is very professional and the prices seem to be one of the lowest you can find due to the currency rate of the Icelandic krona.

I know they provide free housing on site for international students.

They have had a number of international students and according to my colleague they deliver on all they promise.

I am just starting the training there after reserching alot I decided on Keilir. They were by far more economical for me and they airplnes look very nice. From the people I have spoken to that have gone there they seem to be very professional. I looked very carefully at all the options and found Keilir the best option for me.

Top Gear at KEILIR Aviation Academy!

I can only tell you first hand that the fleet is brand new, the DA-40s equipped with G1000 instruments and the DA-42NG with G1000 including the GFC700 autopilot (with LNAV/VNAV and FLCH for those Boeing users!).

I also know that the school is relatively young but at the same time eager and professional - the instructors have hundreds of hours on the B757 and B767 for example and know what Commercial Pilot Students need before the skill tests and even before applying at the airlines.

The prices are very competitive and you can negotiate deals on the housing - the more you buy - the more you get free in the package.

Best of luck!

Interesting topic.

How much would the price be if one should take PPL to ATPL there? Including flight hours, etc. And it is European certificates, so no need for conversion?

Also, is it a good thing to study in Iceland now because of the financial crisis over there?

Prices and courses:

Prices | Courses and organisation | Aviation Academy | en.keilir.net

Very competetive prices from what I can see! Since the Icelandic currency has dropped by about 80% in the last year - the cost of living has dropped by the same amount - as long as you don´t have income in the krona.

It is indeed a JAA FTO.

Is it possible to make over there PPL in one month, or so? Just like at FL "pilot factories" . At the summer of course.

I was just about to start a new thread about Keilir but I'll use this instead. I'd just like to know approximately how many months the CPL/IR-ME would take over there/how much do you fly per week?

Where do you get to fly during the training? Anything abroad?

Hi gents,

I hope you don't mind a small off-topic here, but... have any of you been to Keilir in Iceland?

I was wondering about applying as flight/ground instructor, but I wanted to know if they hire only nationals, or they also had foreign instructors, and would like to ask about the working atmosphere etc... in case they offer me an interview I can have an idea of how's the school (at least from students' perspective).

The fleet seems to be brand new and the facilities look great also, and the little facts I know about Iceland makes it look attractive to live.

Thanks in advance!

Regards / Pablo
