Question Old database and route-do we need new one

Hej,

I think by doing so we would further worsen the quality of discussion on this forum. For all of us "Northern people" so to speak it would be most beneficial if we could keep as many pilots here on this forum. Some day we might really need some rumours.. Question is do we have somebody who can speak all four lanquages reasonably well??

Somebody pls tell me what is the actual problem here???

Why this big stink about Finnish members posting in their native language?
Nobody in the whole world can understand what they say anyways, thus obviously no need for a moderator! Arabs will probably not bother to learn this inacessible language, so PpRuNe may nevcr see lawsuits because of this minor "problem".
Whenever I saw posts in Finnish, I took for granted that the topic was limited and only interesting for residents of Finland. The Finnish may not have a domestic webforum, so they have to resort to PpRuNe. Why not accommodate them, then?
As beforementioned, if/when I have tidbits regarding local happenings in Norway, I may as well post in Norwegian because the info is beyond reach of foreigners: To work in a non-english-language country, wannabe's must master the local lingo.
This said, of course I'd be very happy if the Finnish posted in English so that we could be updated on the action there. If they don't, I don't miss out on much, eh?
The Nordic scene is very limited, we are small countries with few inhabitants.

MD900 Explorer has it right, but then again Northern_Driver has a valid point

As far as I understand it Mme Flaps Forty is the only pprune Moderator that can speak/understand any of the Nordic languages, and that does not include Finnish.

pprune is provided free of charge to those who wish to join, and obey the rules of the website. As pprune is a UK based site, the owner could be liable in a UK court for any contents posted that are libellous or defamatory.

Without a Finnish language moderator, it is impossible to moderate the inputs from Finnish members.

Why don't the Finnish members get together and propose their own moderator ?

Anyone willing to give up most of their freetime reading, editing and deleting posts in Finnish ?

Med venlig hilsen

I do not think that finding a Finnish/Scandic speaking mod is a problem. It was suggested to the PPRuNe "Management" team earlier when the language issues really escalated. From what I saw 99% of the posts in Finnish where actually such that no editing or moderating would have been required. Relatively easy task that is.

Most of the posts where fairly un-interesting to those that do not work, live or otherwise have interest in Finland. I for one, and quite a few others provided translations to English on many posts that could have potentially been of interest to non Finnish speakers.I stopped translating my posts when this language situation got out of hand.

Despite a recent attempt by certain unscrupulous individual and hise/her attempt to mascarade as a Finn, as entertaining as his first post was for a Finn, It was a poor attempt to inflame this language situation again. F40 was kind enough to remove it and we are thus able to continue this discussion in a civilized manner.

Anyways. It seems that there where actually a lot more Finns on the Nordic forum than I thought there where. It has indeed grown quiet.
