75th Anniversary BoB Flypast : Goodwood : 15th Sep 2015
I thought it best to start a specific thread regarding this forthcoming event rather than stretch the one already covering the Biggin Hill event earlier this week. Just to help members who are thinking about attending :ok:

Thanks Coff
:) I will be trying to get there.. |
I have tickets, just need to avoid the dreaded w*rk getting in the way!
|
Might have to take a day off and see if my mates who work (at the musem) there can wangle something...
|
So how do you park 40+ War Birds at Goodwood ...

And so they start to arrive ...

Considering that all versions of the Spitfire from the Mk II onwards (90% of the BoB Flypast Spitfires) were produced at the Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory, I'm disappointed that none of those routes come nearby :{
|
Still trying to think of some link that might bring them to the Vendee, or indeed Charente-Maritime, where RAFA Sud Ouest France will be holding a BoB commemoration lunch on Tuesday - particularly galling, as two of the "sections" will overfly Lymington, where I used to live - RATS!!
|
Nice to see that they remembered to invite a Blenheim.
Be good if a Gladiator was there as well. Sadly, no chance of a Defiant! |
Have a good day all of you that get there, I will be with you in spirit, if not in body, that will be undergoing heart surgery on the day :(

NL - bonne chance with surgery, hope all goes well
W |
Well if doesn't i'll say goodbye now :)
Thank you :) |
I have little doubt but that all will go well. Strangely Mrs W's ex husband is also undergoing open heart surgery today, predicated by radiation therapy for cancer when a teenager
I am sure that we all look forward to seeing you back |
Nutty ...
You make sure the nursing staff have a WiFi router set up as you'll be required back on here ASAP ... Seriously ... I'm sure all will go well for you ... These Human Engineers are almost as good as you Aviation Engineers. Might help if you take along your own borescope :ok: Nice pics ... Coff. |
Just make sure they use their Shadow Boards, it'd be a bugger if they left a GS in there.
Good luck . . . speedy recovery. |
All the best Nutloose.

I hope you haven't made the mistake my father made and asked for your piles to be done at the same time. He admittted later it was a very foolish decision! Good luck |
I hope that the aircraft are well-picketed as the weather for today looks potentially damaging, according to the BBC forecast.....:(
Best of luck for the 15th! |
Good wishes for a safe and historic event, for all!:ok:
OAP |
Forgive a question based on minor pedantry: news is reporting this as " the biggest gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes since World War 2". Is it? Wouldn't more have been gathered during the filming of The Battle of Britain?
I appreciate the answer doesn't matter one iota, just settles my curiosity. |
Good luck for a safe and successful event. Only sorry I will only see it on TV
|
Have you seen this?

One of the formations will at least be seen (wx permitting) at Northolt, So I guess I am heading there.
I assume as the RAF did the Flypast on July 10th that they are doing no further BoB flypasts over London? V1 |
Take off now scheduled for 14:00
|
Can anyone point me in the right direction to establish which of these aircraft is in private ownership as against belonging to museum collections or restoration societies?
Thanks. |
So is it on or has WX delayed again?
Saw a Spit in FR24 20 mins ago heading SW. Went over near the airfield and continued towards the ocean then went off screen :-( |
Was live on BBC News but they are now covering Corbyn :=
|
Appreciate all that has gone into this and the operational constraints however it is SUCH a pity that at least one could not have flown over Birmingham even on the 15 approach to BHX which takes you directly over what was the Castle Bromwich Factory (now Jaguar of course)
The last time that happened was 1998 (I think?) Ray Hanna came over when the Spitfire island sculpture was unveiled outside the factory! Alex Henshaw was with us that day too! He would have enjoyed today! RIP both of you I trust you as watching from up there somewhere! http://www.avcollect2.co.uk/buccanee..._july_1998.jpg Outside his office at Castle Bromwich with the big fella!! http://www.avcollect2.co.uk/buccanee...hurchill02.jpg |
Six of the best just flew straight and low down my valley in perfect formation - what a wonderful sight and sound!
A huge BZ to all concerned today.....:ok::ok::ok: Jack |
Saw two route up by us aprox an hour ago, which would have been on route for one of the sections. Mrs Bunny has just reported that six flew past (near the old met office & staff college) heading southish.
|
Three came over Brentwood. On their way to North Weald I guess
|
I'm sure I saw a Mustang in with the others. What relevance does the Mustang have in relation to a Battle that took place 2 yrs before it was introduced?
|
Expensive Disappointment
According to the local rag, one formation was due to fly along the front at Bournemouth and then down to Weymouth and Exeter. That was delayed for two hours so I had to take Mrs p for an expensive lunch. Two hours later we mustered again, along with many others, All we saw was one Spitfire passing behind us.
On Sep 15, 1940 the Germans were surprised that there were more fighters ranged against them than they expected. Today it was a kind of reverse. Today, there were a lot less than we expected. |
Here in Redhill I saw three heading along the north downs heading east. I had a ticket for Goodwood but at the last minute I couldn't go due to a pressing family matter.
|
STB,probably a camera-ship....
|
Believe it may have been HRH Prince Harry in the back of the Mustang. One of the T9s went tech and he gave up his seat in the two-seat Spit to allow a veteran to fly. Good man.
Am guessing they wheeled out the Mustang to get him flying. Certainly looked like him in the back (bonedome on). It was the final departure, just after the last of the BoB fighters. |
Well done Prince Harry. Again.
|
Saw a three ship vic followed by a pair fly over Swindon today. Drew my thoughts to all those who gave so much for the great country we have enjoyed until recently. It also drew my mind to our mate Nutloose, who I hope is now comfortable and recovering well, post op. As the Spits, Hurri's and the Hampden flew today it should have reminded all Britons of the sacrifice made back then. And why we should not throw it all away. Hope Nutty is back on line soon, someone always worth reading when he comments.
