Spitfires Mark 75 Years Since Battle Of Britain

Good programme but strangely edited. "There's the Blenheim, flew in all three commands" "Yeah but there's a lot going on in those cockpits it must take a toll on their bodies."?

smujsmith 15th Sep 2015 19:46

aox,

Good tip, anyone who has missed it can do the channel 4 plus 1 at 2100 hrs.

Smudge :ok:

I was there. Thousands came to watch and commemorate. Fantastic to see the section take offs..we counted 30/1 fighters inc a mustang plus the Blenheim. One Spit aborted mid takeoff run...nothing serious though as after 10 mins same a/c took off. Congrats to all for making this work...and thanks.

Mr & Mrs Coff had a wonderful day out down at Goodwood (RAF Westhampnett) today ... the engine 'music' was marvellous and the sight of all those Spitfires, Hurricanes, Blenheim and a solitary Mustang flying ... simply breathtaking :ok:

I'm not a photographer ... but here are a few pics I took ... sorry Nutty ... not to your standard :(

I couldn't help thinking how well Capt Harry Wales came across on the programme: an all-round good egg who clearly wanted to divert the spotlight onto his disabled pals and Wg Cdr Tom Neil.

I hope Harry enjoyed the rest of his birthday.

With his brother flying air ambulances, the pair are the best PR team their grandma's firm has had for years. :D

What 'e said.

Harry came across as a thoroughly genuine young man, bloody good show.

Well done to all concerned and involved, only saw the TV coverage, but was impressed by most of it - journalists however made some odd remarks (as per that Blenheim comment - my dad was a WOp/AG on them . . . )

I was unable to attend but watched the programme last night; as others have said, a fantastic display, well done to everyone who helped put it all together plus a special thank you to Capt Harry Wales and Wg Cdr Tom Neil.

Even the most rabid follower of Comrade Corbychev :yuk: couldn't have failed to be impressed by Prince Harry on the Ch4 programme.

(Hopefully he's put the nonsense of Las Vegas behind him now....)

(Hopefully he's put the nonsense of Las Vegas behind him now....)
Of course if ever the antics of the Ascot Mob were publicised . . . . personally, I think it makes him the man he's become. I wouldn't merely follow him out of interest . . .

Coffman Starter,

Lovely pictures of a lovely aircraft ! Chap in pic #5 is bringing it in at just the right AoA (like a TM).

IIRC, your namesakes were fitted in the Griffon Spits. Used to frighten me to death !

JointShiteFighter 17th Sep 2015 12:56

For aircraft that have propellers, a shutter speed of around 1/200 will blur the props to give the image a bit of life. You will need to pan (follow) the subject in the view finder to focus, though. It takes a bit of practise.

Snapshot 17th Sep 2015 13:05

Hi Coff,
wish I could've been there, the energy around the place must have been awesome!

Your photo framing is lovely, seeing those stunning aircraft togther is great however, (and in NO way is it a criticism mate) try and set your camera up so the shutter speed is at least 125th/sec or below!

Then you shall have lovely blurred props in motion which certainly adds life and inertia
to a photo! Don't worry too much about aperture, just get the shutter speed down as low as you can and pan smoothly :ok:
AB

JointShiteFighter 17th Sep 2015 14:29

Agreed with the above.

The images are nicely exposed and are rather sharp. Shutter speed really is the only major improvement.

CoffmanStarter 17th Sep 2015 16:09

Many thanks Gents :ok:

I appreciate the constructive comments. In fact Nutty, who thankfully is well and now out of Hospital, mentioned the same :ok:

I'm using a Canon EOS 450D with a 55/250 Zoom ... but clearly need to practice more ;)

Best ...

Coff.

JointShiteFighter 17th Sep 2015 16:27

Nutty was in hospital? Blimey! Get well soon, mate.

I will PM you an example image shortly. Bear in mind the example still needs a bit of processing as the light was messing me about.
