Typhoons over Grand Canyon

Some great imagery of 1(F) en-route to Red Flag. Good luck on the Ex.

Is Typhoon a comfortable jet, relatively speaking, in which to spend a few hours?

orca 9th Jan 2015 18:22

Do you think there are any with no.3 in position?

Fox3WheresMyBanana 9th Jan 2015 18:28

Must be one of those Nimrod formations they were on about in another thread; two aircraft in adjacent Altimeter Setting Regions.

"Same way, same day", what's the problem?

TurbineTooHot 9th Jan 2015 18:51

Al,
Yeah, slightly less roomy than the might Fin, but the seat is much more comfortable and less lower lumbar crunching!
And it's far easier to tank in, what with all the SEP and the FCS, so that makes any trail less fraught (caveat: you can f&&& it up all the same however).

Cheers

Courtney Mil 9th Jan 2015 18:58

Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Yes, the seat is as comfortable as an ejection seat can be - a bit hard by necessity.

Good to see some positive News about the RAF.

Here's to the folk doing the job.

Thought the same thing, must be one of the Nav crossovers that went to Typhoon! :ok:

Probably. But who cares? It wasn't an official photo shoot. I wonder if they maintained perfect close formation for the entire transit. If I'd been lead I'd have kept them in echelon port for the entire trip. No, really.:E

If I'd been lead
You're a hard man Courtney, but you have to respect standards!

Courtney Mil 9th Jan 2015 23:14

I promise to try harder in future, my friend. Ready for a Trappers ride any time. As long as I'm in front. :ok:

TBM-Legend 9th Jan 2015 23:22

It's obvious. Two flights of two in close proximity...

They do look sharp oner that beautiful piece of real estate:ok:

Navy_Adversary 9th Jan 2015 23:34

Would the aircraft do the entire transit from Lossie to Nellis non stop? It must be the best part of 12 hours with the Pilots in one position, DVT, Liquids, food and all that!
TIA

Typhoons over Grand Canyon

I'd say 2 is tight, and therefore 3 is in the correct position 😀

Al R 10th Jan 2015 06:32

TTH,

Cheers. I wonder how being reclined for long periods in other jets (16 etc) was.

Great shots btw.

vascodegama 10th Jan 2015 09:10

Navy

It's sort of hidden in the story. It was done over 4 legs
1 Lossiemouth to Lajes
2 Lajes to Bermuda
3 Bermuda to Eglin
4 Eglin to Nellis
I am a bit surprised at the 13 refuellings though (unless you count the ones on the ground!)

Fox3WheresMyBanana 10th Jan 2015 09:17

Keeping topped off makes a lot of sense.
You've never had fuel problems well out over the water, have you Navy?

My best was 10.15 one way and 10.35 back the other the next day in an F3 during GW1, don't know about DVT but it was a pain in the arse.

orca 10th Jan 2015 10:28

Black Sheep One - and there you have the real lesson. Always best to be a little tight, it'll be the other guy who always gets the flak!

(I blame the whip myself).
