Typhoons over Grand Canyon
Some great imagery of 1(F) en-route to Red Flag. Good luck on the Ex.

Is Typhoon a comfortable jet, relatively speaking, in which to spend a few hours?
|
Do you think there are any with no.3 in position?
|
Must be one of those Nimrod formations they were on about in another thread; two aircraft in adjacent Altimeter Setting Regions.
|
"Same way, same day", what's the problem?
|
Al,
Yeah, slightly less roomy than the might Fin, but the seat is much more comfortable and less lower lumbar crunching! And it's far easier to tank in, what with all the SEP and the FCS, so that makes any trail less fraught (caveat: you can f&&& it up all the same however). Cheers |
Great pictures. Thanks for posting.
Yes, the seat is as comfortable as an ejection seat can be - a bit hard by necessity. Good to see some positive News about the RAF. Here's to the folk doing the job. |

Some video from the same trail on the RAF YouTube channel:

If I'd been lead |
I promise to try harder in future, my friend. Ready for a Trappers ride any time. As long as I'm in front. :ok:
|
It's obvious. Two flights of two in close proximity...
They do look sharp oner that beautiful piece of real estate:ok: |
Would the aircraft do the entire transit from Lossie to Nellis non stop? It must be the best part of 12 hours with the Pilots in one position, DVT, Liquids, food and all that!
TIA |
Typhoons over Grand Canyon
I'd say 2 is tight, and therefore 3 is in the correct position 😀
|
TTH,
Cheers. I wonder how being reclined for long periods in other jets (16 etc) was. Great shots btw. |
Navy
It's sort of hidden in the story. It was done over 4 legs 1 Lossiemouth to Lajes 2 Lajes to Bermuda 3 Bermuda to Eglin 4 Eglin to Nellis I am a bit surprised at the 13 refuellings though (unless you count the ones on the ground!) |
Keeping topped off makes a lot of sense.
You've never had fuel problems well out over the water, have you Navy? |

Black Sheep One - and there you have the real lesson. Always best to be a little tight, it'll be the other guy who always gets the flak!
(I blame the whip myself). |
And someone needs to tell them they are 180 degrees out from the operational theatre yet again!!
|
"Do you think there are any with no.3 in position? "
Eeeee, when I were a lad, there weren't anybody out of position, 'cos we were perfect" |
A simple 'No!' would have sufficed.;)
|
Great pictures.
How come no RAF roundels? The only color on these birds was on the tail fin. |

And, like the rest of the paint scheme, they are "lo-viz".
No more carrying around bloody great colourful targets on the aircraft. |

True, but no need to help them more than you have to.
|
I though all Eagle drivers wanted their aircraft dayglo orange, so the MiG pilots could all go to Hell knowing d@mn well who'd killed them?
