Both Lancasters and other aircraft from the BoB flight will be at Strubby on the 24th for the unveiling of a new war memorial. Visiting aircraft will be welcome on the day with transport provided to the memorial site. Hog roast, a special Batemans brewery beer and more.
If the weather is good should be a memorable day out. |
I wish I was in the UK, it's probably 40 years since I've seen a Lancaster,
let alone two flying. I'll be looking forward to seeing the videos on the tube. |
I look forward to the other half of the Squadron Exchange!

Clacton, Dunsfold or Shoreham are all possibilities, will rely on weather forecast before booking.
|
Well I hope it gets here with no further snags
I was thinking earlier that apart from Maritime GR.3s flying in formation until retirement in 1956. The last time a pair of Lancasters were seen in formation would surely have been for the Dambusters film in 1954? V1 |
OK, I have a vague memory that I saw in my youth 2 Lancasters, possibly in Cornwall.
Could have been a Lancaster and something else very similar ? |
Tucked up in a hangar at Goose for the night.
|
The last time a pair of Lancasters were seen in formation would surely have been for the Dambusters film in 1954? Last 4 French birds in New Caledonia were withdrawn July 1964. Canadian @1964 Argentine @1965 I'm sure there were a few formation flights with these Lancasters, but get your point- it has been a while. |
You are not an Aussie until you've seen G for George ;-)
|
George nicely preserved and displayed, thank you Australia.
I think Australia does the commemoration thing far better than here. |
She made Iceland OK. next stop- CGY! a link to the Hamilton Spectator which is covering the event. Lanc finishes first leg of flight to England.
also UPDATE: Lanc begins 2nd leg of journey to U.K.. and Lancaster lands in Iceland. Wish I could be back in Coningsby for the arrival! |
