Don't worry about the black Omega's either, there is open-source info available on both sites
The truth is out there!

XV277
That was one of them, the southern one is RAF Barnham in Suffolk, which I presume was to support Honington/Marham?

There are other web sites, for example:

Bunker Tours

But the Subterranea Britannica one is interesting on all sorts of levels.

things that are not there

There is a complete communications airfield missing in north oxfordshire ?
just shows green fields yet if you drive by you cant miss it for miles around whats the point of that:confused:

allan907 17th Apr 2007 15:10

Try 51 59 20.66N 01 10 39.88W. Croughton is there in all its glory - and hi res too! So no conspiracy there then.

Pontius Navigator 17th Apr 2007 16:33

tacr2man, don't read too much in to it. The way you say it, there is a green blob only over Echelon. In fact the whole area is still low res. It will probably be upgraded in time. Cottesmore is also low res whereas the bomb dumps at Wittering are perfectly clear.

tacr2man 17th Apr 2007 16:37

foot in mouth

Just checked re Croughton your right it is there, thats interesting because it was not shown originally when Google earth was launched shown as green field site with no roads or sat dishes etc:hmm:

I think there was a picture of the BBMF lancaster returning to base somewhere up near Newark ? when it was launched as well

Pontius Navigator 17th Apr 2007 16:38

tacr2man, if you trawl back a few posts you will find clue to the lanc, not Newark :)

Please someone put me out of my misery what's the thing in the wash at
52°50'31.29"N 0°14'35.28"E It's outside the bombing ranges .

ZH875 17th Apr 2007 20:43

Shhhh, it's the plug to lower the water in the wash, when Comrade Brown has taxed us all to high heaven to combat global warming, he simply pulls the plug and lets the water out.....

...And then raises taxes to help defeat falling sea levels :suspect:

P-T 17th Apr 2007 21:17

RAF Fylingdales seems to be blurred for some resaon?

XV277 17th Apr 2007 21:50

ZH875 is almost right! It's an experimental freshwater resevoir built in the 70s, now left to the birds

Pontius Navigator 18th Apr 2007 06:39

XV277 is only giving you the cover story.

It is actually the crater from a VERY LARGE BOMB that missed the target. They put stones around it and called it a reservoir to keep the locals away.

I mean, who would put a freshwater reservoir in the middle of the sea?

Or if might have been something to do with James ...........

ah, the Omega ..........

Opel testzentrum, Babenhausen. Opel are based south of Frankfurt, and use this site for testing.

TabbyCat 18th Apr 2007 09:40

If you blokes read the instructions of how to use... :) and turned on the information on Google Earth Community (in Layers) you might get a few clues....

Hill Walker 18th Apr 2007 09:45

Using the instructions is no fun...bit like IKEA flat-pack furniture.

The doughnut in the wash..

Actually I just found this...

"1972: a feasibility study commissioned by the Government to build a barrage across half of The Wash to capture the freshwater from the four main rivers, to improve navigation through sea locks, to provide recreational facilities and an area of land for a power station, etc. was undertaken. This led to the circular trial bank/bund being built to the east of Sutton Bridge and the Nene. The purpose of which was to act as reservoirs but the report concluded it would be too costly."

P.S. sorry nuffin to do with aviation

Yup, Millbrook - only know because I saw it once while flying out of Heathrow (as Self loading freight) and dug out an OS map!
