Put all Sticky Threads under a single Thread called...."Stickies"? :)

Don't mess with the Chinook Thread, however.

FV we had just that a few years ago and I spent many, many hours a few winters ago going through the threads to find suitable ones I suggested should be archived. And they were, mostly, until them in the Towers decided that there would be no more "Archives" and absorbed them back into the main body of the Forum's threads. They weren't Stickies as such because they could not be added to. But they made it easy to look up some of the more hilarious or valuable threads.

Stickies should be banished to a separate thread.... I am fed up with Chinook, et al. Time to move on.

Some people may well be 'fed up' with Chinook et al, but nobody is forcing you to read it and a lot of people continue to follow the events with interest.

I agree that one of the stickies on the military forum is probably not worth keeping as a stickie. But then, it's not my train set.

Is it really that much of an inconvenience to ignore the first four threads of a 25-thread page if they don't interest you?

The 'stickies' cannot be banished to a seperate thread. They are already a seperate thread - or is that too difficult to work out. As I said previously one may well have its sticky status removed shortly though.

OK. extpwron If you had been tasked with a similar situation as the Chinook, and you met your end in similar circumstances would it matter if there was NO negligence that no-one fought your corner if they said you were negligent? And please don't say it wouldn't matter if you were dead, would it!

Your family would! That is what the Chinook thread is about - IF you care to read it - and it might do your soul some good too. Good people are fighting to clear the pilots names and will continue to do so - so PPRuNe will keep it there.

I am much happier with scrolling past the stickies, most of which are interesting, than I am at reading some of the unfunny, abusive and downright rude comments continually appearing on other threads. The "I'm Irish, am I screwed " thread immediately springs to mind, where someone not in the services gets "banter" and "wit" from those who could actually help and give advice for his situation.

Not at this time. We are planning a cull of forums, or a merging of one or two, and the chances are putting up a new forum is probably zilch! Don't worry the Mil forum is safe from either.

Before the sticky days, when threads such as the Chinook fell too far down the ladder, they used to get an entry from anyone wishing it to remain in a prominent position saying "moving it back to the top". The Chinook thread is an exception and should remain sticky, but let the others stand or fall as decided by the PPRuNers. Give them a few "back to the top" if you wish, but if nothing new is appearing, let it slide.

Hear! Hear! Ali. If a thread is worth staying at the top it will do, natural selection and all that.

What the **** is all this crap about? Sticky's? What about sticky's? They are simply a thread of airframes that some drivers on here have been flying in the past. They are interesting to most so why do a few want them removed? I think the stories and memories are great.

Get real guys this is so bloody stupid I cannot imagine what your real life is like!

When you come to the Mil page just forget the Sticky's - they don't exist OK! Just go to the next one past them and voila, you are in your own little world.

Who cares about the Canberra and the Vulcan? Those that do will find the threads and, as mentioned above, if they are of great interest then they will naturally stay at the top. Sticky threads should be kept for those subjects of great importance, such as the Chinook one, not for those subjects that a some may find interesting. There are many other threads in this forum that get the same number of readers and responses as those selected long ago to be sticky, but they didn't get that status.

I have nothing against the principle of a sticky thread if it is used for subjects that matter rather than those purely of interest.

And as for the "who's train set is it anyway" retorts :rolleyes: It may be someone elses train set, but it would be a mighty dull thing to play with on there own. It is the users that keep the trains rolling. It never hurts anyone to listen to comments from others, whether they agree with those comments or not.

Some threads are sticky because they are important to many of us and will stay because the content is relevant to something external that may be going on, such as a campaign to posthumeously exonerate fellow aircrew because of some self serving, @arse covering by 'managerial' types. Others get stickied because they are entertaining and either I or another mod feels that they deserve the chance for others who may not frequent PPRuNe as often as some of you to get a chance to see it and if possible contribute to it. If one of the stickies doesn't get anything new added to it for a reasonable period of time ('reasonable' being a rather fluid term) then it will be unstickied and left to fend for itself where the laws of natural selection will once again take over.

Why some of you are getting so knicker twisted about sticky threads is quite revealing! :ooh: The physical and mental effort to have to scroll past the few stickies that there are is probably a sign that you need a bigger monitor or a higher resolution so that you can immediately see where the first non-sticky thread is located.
