Vulcan / Victor question
You're quite right, ORAC - but knowing the calibre of most of our politicians these days, I wouldn't mind wagering that if that happened, God forbid, the MoD would simply blame the crew for the loss.
And then spend years using every possible variation of sophistry and semantic obfuscation to avoid answering the real question....
By the by, has it ever been postively confirmed that the PFI will permit the use of the airframes in enemy airspace? I may be mis-remembering earlier threads on this question, but don't recall a positive answer.

I think 'forget' could be right. If I recall, the Vulcan escape trainer did not have the canopy fitted, so that crews could practice ditching drills (the ac would be ditched after blowing the canopy).

The proposed Vulcan Phase Six (BŁ would have had ejector seats for all crew. It was a collosal beast, with an AUW of 358000 lbs. The failure of the Skybolt project saw its demise.
If anyone is really interested in all the Vulcan idiosyncracies, then THE VULCAN STORY 1952-2002, by Tim Laming is an excellent read ISBN 1-85605-701-1
It has a reprint of the aircrew manual in the rear. Real solid anorak stuff!

Another good book well worth reading about Vulcan Ops. is :-
The 'FOB'S KID' Syndrome by an ex Crew Chief, Barry Goodwin.
Vulcan Ops. at Waddington.
He died sadly, soon after the book was published.
ISBN 1-84037-266-4
