Chinook and Apache Questions?
Just a couple of questions,
Firstly, is it true that the wokka will be returning to Yeovilton with the current Junglie crews at the end of their tours ( they appear to be increasing in numbers here at Odiham)? Personally, I am all for it if it means we don't have to spend any more time at sea but all I have heard is rumour and was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny the rumours? How many, short term or long term plan, is it still going to be only RN at Yeovilton or will they mix the Sqns. It all makes sense as I have always said that the Sea King is the new Wessex, but is this yet another change/re-arrangement by stealth?
Secondly, genuine question from a man that would love to get his hands on the Apache and sees the benefits it will bring to all three Services (just in case you thought that I was just about to go Pongo bashing). But why, at this our time of need, is the capability not being deployed to build sandcastles like the rest of us?
Not only would it put the whingeing, uninformed and sensationalist media back in its box, it would also help procure bits and bobs that would other wise take along time and would also accelerate the Military Aircraft Release (MAR) programme. Even a couple of aircraft would fly the flag, be a huge morale boost for those concerned (including our boys on the ground that are not too trusting of our Yank trigger fingers).
Even if it was just to sit on the pan and be photographed/filmed by CNN would make it worth it from a PR/Psy Ops point of view? Isn't this an ideal opportunity for the Apache OEU to get amongst it and develop their doctrine and procedures, especially with all 3 Services providing the best chance of Joint/collective training that will be seen for years!

How about they ship a few of the mothballed Apaches out to the Gulf, throw a bit of sand over them, maybe fire a few small arms rounds into the belly then invite the press round to see a post-op Apache! How are the press ever to know that its not doing actually leaving the ground? How are the Iraqis to know as well!

Slightly off topic; two Chinooks just went by my place at about 50ft and under the HT wires just up the road. Only complaint, I was in garden, camera was in house.
When I did that with 7Sqn yonks ago we went under quite slowly and near the pylons where there was greater clearance but these mates went through pretty much in the middle, the second one jinking left to do this, any specific reason?
BTW it was 1245 local and SE of Horsham if it was you can you do it again now I've got me camera out?

Not Guilty Your Honour!
It wasn't me, however, if it is the place that I think it is I think that you will recognise the natural re-entrant that lends itself very nicely to that particular exercise/demo and therefore is a better option than the usual pylon reference point technique that you were referring to. As you probably well know and have experienced there are numerous ways to 'skin a cat'.

AGM,
Thanks for the reply;its about 1nm east of Lower Beeding.
Mutley, they obviously knew the wires were there and its a well planned and practiced technique.
