Pilot Life

hello guys,

i have searched the archives on this but i have a more specific question.

If i am married and my wife follows me wherever i may be in the world, how much time can we typically expect to be apart. I know some guys go away for months but is that just for the people whos wives stay behind?

cheers

If you are married and your wife follows you wherever you go you will probably want to get divorced.

My wife follows me all over the world! Her favourite place is Kuwait but she also really likes the Brain-Dead room in Goose Bay. She just sits there all day and we spend all night together.

If I just go for a night stop, she travels in the baggage pod, so we rarely spend any time apart...

Benjamin,

Just how rich are you??

The low cost Airlines don't tend to go to the places HMG are liable to send you to.

PS. There is no entitlement to NBC kit for spouses either!!!!!!

ATD: Get a life? Get a life?! Just because Benj has found someone he actually wants to be with other than an airplane !! A simple answer to this guy's question "how much time can I expect to be apart?" wouldn't have hurt. Ok, the first bit about his "wife following him everywhere in the world" needed sorting, as Kilo did -- But your post?!

Nothing wrong about wanting to be with someone you love, is there. You come across 'cold as a stone, my friend! ...Get a life!

Benjamin,

You may typically expect to be apart for longer than you would otherwise prefer, but occaisionally, for not quite as long as you might like.

If you have already found a wife who will follow you to every far-flung corner of the globe, maybe your questions should be along the lines of "Do I need a career at all, whether it be connected with aviation or not?"

Then again, if She is going to follow you, maybe you need a career in aviation, preferably one which takes you to the far-flung reaches of the globe.....

Your answer lies in the responses you have received thus far (my own excluded, naturally); every one of them is valid, and you could do worse than base your decisions on their collective wisdom.

Please tell me that 1981 doesn't relate to the year of your birth, or I shall become terribly depressed.....!

Good luck, and keep a stiff upper. Lip.

Back every night on low-costs.

3-4 days apart on tours for shorthaul though sometimes longer.

Between 3 days minimum and 2 weeks maximum for longhaul.

If sent on a course elsewhere could be longer eg simulator at another company's site.

Bear in mind if you set your roots somewhere then occassionally the company can ask you to work from another base - costs of moving are usually provided if above a certain distance from original base and you move within a month or two.

Benj, you can expect to be "accompanied" only on a full overseas posting, normally 2.5 - 3 years. Detachments are usually unaccompanied and are frequent depending on aircraft type.
