Military Aviation A forum for the professionals who fly military hardware. Also for the backroom boys and girls who support the flying and maintain the equipment, and without whom nothing would ever leave the ground. All armies, navies and air forces of the world equally welcome here.

I think the "Senior Whitehall source" quoted below should be traced, given a rifle and 'volunteered" to be in the first troop carrier across the border. One would hate him to feel left out....

The Telegraph:

Britain's armed forces are expected to be ordered by the end of the month to prepare for war with Iraq, a senior Whitehall source said yesterday.................

Asked when there was likely to be a political decision to go to war, the source said: "I would be surprised if things had not moved on by the end of the month.

"The issue of British involvement is a political one, it seems to me. But one understands that. I think the British Army would feel a little left out if they didn't go."

My grandad, a WW2 RAF veteran, had 2 pieces of advice for me when I joined up:

1. Never fly a Mk1
2. Never volunteer!

Sound words Grandad!

AL1 to BGA's granddad's advice...

Never fly a Mk1, don't be the first to operate a (Boeing) Mk2 and wait until the docs/graphs have been written before strapping a (Westlands) Mk7 to your back.

AL2 to Grandads advice

Never work for people who sh*t in the street.
Marry a girl with small hands.

Nothing matters very much, most things don't matter at all.

Camp LeJeune, North Carolina is in the throes of packing up the entire Division.....24,000 troops.....FT. Hood, Texas and Ft. Riley are packing up the armored divisions.......you are going to have plenty of company on the Christmas tour......I imagine the New Year's fireworks display in Bagdhad are going to be killer this year! Reckon the Easter Parade will be down Saddam Hussein Memorial Blvd?
