If only the USA followed the same philospohy of peace and diplomacy over fighting against people - wouldnt the world be a more peaceful place?
The USA has no right to tell the UK how to react to an invasion of its sovereign territory when Bush is hell bent on a war to avenge daddy being humiliated in 91.

Surely the real reason for a new incursion to Iraq is to control the oil supplies... Hence the reason why America wants to install an American military governement for up to 10 years!!.

North Korea is developing weapons of mass destruction, but the yanks, as usual are not interested as there is no financial gain to them.

Blair is a puppy dog for Bush, I mean, we cant even sort out NI. We talk about stamping out terrorism, and concoct a document that provides no conclusive proof (I am no Communist, but Putin has a valid point), yet on the other hand although the IRA does not hand over weapons, and Adams will not denounce violence or make a statement saying the "war" should end, we cede power to 'former' terrorists!!

Terrorism should be stamped out, but Iraq is just a personal vendetta for Dee Dubya.

Read somewhere that Britain and Argentina fighting over the Falklands was a bit like two bald men fighting over a comb....but that was before we all cared that the underside of the Southern Ocean was chocker block with black gold. Now that we do care, Dubya is bound to want to be involved, because, like, you know, he's kinda interested in the stuff.

Yanks involved or not, if it came to another scrap you Poms would probably win, because you usually do. Precisely how is anyone's guess; it must be a real bone of contention to those regimes the world over and throughout history that they can have rows and rows of shiny hardware, and lots of jackbooted, goose-stepping people in really fashionable uniforms, and still get rolled by a bunch of irreverent, knock-kneed, spotty herberts happily turning the globe pink with a culture based on beer and fart jokes.....little do they know that this is actually the secret....

BlueWolf, you have earned a Nobel prize! The "Beer & Fart Theory of History". I love it!

For once you don't have to work out which came first, when its "beer" or "fart" there's no contest. Interesting theory though.

THESE THREADS HAVE GONE FROM THE SERIOUS TO THE REDICULOUS TO THE FARSICAL. IT'S ABOUT TIME THE SUBJECT WAS REMOVED FROM THE FORUMS.

In response to the last few posts.....

I think the question asked by the original poster was whether the UK still has the ability to conduct an operation like Operation Corporate by ourselves, and without having to rely on other people.

Notwithstanding the diplomatic, intelligence, logistial and other assistance given by the US, France and various other nations, or the brave and generous offer by New Zealand to contribute forces.

Kennyr, having been involved in Op Corporate (see earlier post) and shared an aircraft with guys returning from the Sir Galahad disaster I am well aware of the seriousness of war. The "beer and fart" theory may well be a crude way of expressing it but there is no doubt that a strong sense of humour, again often crude, is a considerable asset to the British forces. I sometimes think that if some of the world leaders could take themselves less seriously then many conflicts could be avoided.
As far as the initial question is concerned, now as then, we Brits suffer from a grave lack of modern equipment but have a remarkable ability to make the very most of what we do have with good humour. Whether this is enough is for others to say but they need more that smooth talk from those that provide.
