Red Arrows - toxic culture
Thus I infer that about a dozen of our best of the best FJ pilots have no assigned role in TTW. Perhaps TTW also does not exist.
Or is war directed at these shores simply unplanned for or inconceivable? I hope "they" are right.

war role
whilst standing next to a Gnat on static display at a big air show 2 keen cadets asked if had any weapons.
Answer yes - can’t you see the big spear (the pitot ) at the front - on a good day you could impale about 6 of the enemy in the ground attack role !
They believed every word!

I seem to remember a Hawk I think doing some training against some American jets and winning ( Deci?)

Shortly after resuming my UAS tour having been away for 7 months flying the VC10K in Gulf War 1, the phone rang in my office. It was some person-formerly-known-as-a-WRAF who said that she needed to confirm my war appointment details. Some mighty important duties ferrying people around in HM's Bulldogs, I gathered.
Suspecting a wind-up by a well-briefed female student, I told her to pull the other one! But she assured me that it was a genuine call. "Well, I suspect that I won't be doing anything of the sort as I'll be doing the same thing that I've just been doing!", I replied. "What was that?" came the response.... So I explained, but after the giggles, she politely pleaded with me to acknowledge her letter when it arrived. Of course I ageed, but you do have to wonder whether left hand and right hand actually know what the other one is doing....

Would need a conversion course and sim time. 4 minute warning? Do not do that either.
At least we could eat Household Cavalry horses ....................

I would imagine the scene would be like a WW2 scramble with all the aircrew rushing to the aircraft, not because they were all going into action, but because by then the RAF would not have enough aircraft to go around, so it would be first come, first served.

Given the sentiments on this thread, a timely advert last night, one I've not seen before, promoting the Reds....out of interest, the merchandising must produce a nice little income stream.
Any ideas as to where the revenue ends up ?

Toxic at Wyton ??
Each to their own of course . . but perhaps a little more meat on the bones of your suggestion / claim would perhaps help us all to see if there might be any inkling of a truth lurking somewhere within ?? As it was, 2008 - 2011 were Happy Days for me in the Wyton EFTS “Cold War Office” . . those who were there, of course, might well remember the aged, wise old heads living in the CWO but remembering a “toxic culture” ?? . . I’d be somewhat surprised

It (the royalties on intellectual property owned by the MoD) is used by MoD Media and Comms to fund projects not covered by core funding - so some of the nice to have stuff for promoting the RAF in the public eye.
Just for the record (and I know it wasn't a serious poke), I did EFT at Wyton during the period in question, and no, there was no toxic culture - quite the opposite, it was a very pleasant place to learn to fly, and the residents of the 'Cold War Office' not only had a vast amount of flying and teaching experience between them, but also a steady supply of wit and good humour.

The Red Arrows display team is in "special measures" after a report found predatory behaviour towards women was "widespread and normalised".
