One wonders if this was a factor in the decision to delay his current disciplinary hearing and the amount of time allocated for it? It would require someone with a thorough knowledge of the process to confirm whether that might be the case.

The fact that the Staffordshire allegations are apparently being investigated as a criminal matter involving fraud could mean that they would take precedence over other matters. It would be a travesty if he was permitted to resign without being held to account on either matter.

Disregarding the awards to which it would appear he is not entitled . Surely impersonating a naval officer, or any military officer for that matter, is reason enough to have this fantasist keel hauled
Doesn’t anyone check records or fact check a Cv ? it would appear not . As a con man he has risen far above his abilities and was found out, it is worrying .

I’m certainly no apologist for this character, but I think there’s a big difference between ‘impersonating’ vs saying “I was one “

Hardly ! Stating on cv that one was an officer when this is untrue constitutes impersonation , for personal benefit or advancement . Note the officers hat in the group photograph to which he was not entitled .

....in which report he is somewhat curiously described as being firstly a "former" and then as a "serving" police officer.

Serving 10 years for fraud, perhaps?

He is described as a former Staffordshire officer. As he is no longer employed by the Staffordshire Constabulary I would say that is an accurate statement.

....except that when you reread my post you will perhaps realise that I was making the point that he cannot be both!

"relatively harmless fantasy". Really..........what utter tripe. I've seen people severely disciplined for far less.

leader of men

  • Having met the man in question in the worst of circumstances I found him outstanding in his actions. The Police under his command found him to be an inspiring leader.

Except if you read the BBC article again you will see that they specifically use the term “former Staffordshire officer”.

As he is now serving in another force he is a serving officer as described by the IOPC, but he is also a former Staffordshire officer as described by the BBC.

A Walt's a Walt fer a' that ...

A Walt's a Walt ....

The Police under his command found him to be an inspiring leader.
As no doubt did the sailors under his command during his Royal Navy Service.

" and those who take such enormous ownership and offence at his relatively harmless fantasy."
FYI - Yes I do take offence ... on behalf of all those, including many known to me, who did the right stuff.

It's called "Stolen Valor" for a very good reason.

He may well have been an inspirational leader.........but he was also severely lacking in integrity. He held a position he almost certainly wasn't entitled to hold.......and at the expense of others.

Walting Matilda Down Under

It would appear that Walting may well be a family trait - seems his brother’s medal, that he no longer wore (but actually does), may not be due the rosette either!
